Spring rear, replacing (Four-C)

Special tools:
951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston

Removal

Removing the upper mounting for the shock absorber




Remove the floor carpet.
Fold the rear seat backrest forward.

Remove:
- the clips and fold out the front edge of the side panel in the cargo compartment
- the soundproofing
- the nut for the upper mounting for the shock absorber. Use socket:999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber.

Installing the retaining strap




- Raise the car
- Install a restraining strap between the control arms. Tighten lightly.

Removing the brake caliper





Remove:
- the wheel
- ABS sensor and the cable from the wheel spindle
- the brake caliper mounting screws. Hang up the ABS line and the brake caliper. Use a piece of wire.

Disconnecting the connector




Disconnect the connector on top of the sub-frame. Pull the connector off the rail on the sub-frame and out to the side. Pull up and open the connector.

Removing the shock absorber




Disconnect the cable harness from the sub-frame and the control arm for the shock absorbers.

Remove:
- the screw
- the shock absorber.

Removing the spring




Use hydraulic piston:951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston using claw:951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw and extension:951 2937 extension rod 951 2937 Extension Rod.
Compress the spring.

Remove:
- the grommet
- the spring.

Note! Note the position of the spring in the claw:951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw so that the new spring can be gripped in the same way.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the spring




Use hydraulic piston:951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston using claw:951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw and extension:951 2937 extension rod 951 2937 Extension Rod.
Compress the new spring. Thread it into the control arm.

Note! Ensure that the spring is gripped in the same place as the old spring.

Install:
- the spring in the control arm
- the grommet
- release the spring.
Remove the hydraulic piston:951 2911 Hydraulic piston 951 2911 Hydraulic Piston using claw:951 2914 Claw 951 2914 Claw and extension:951 2937 extension rod 951 2937 Extension Rod.

Note! Lubricate the rubber ring using soap solution for easier installation.




Twist the spring until there is a clearance (A) of 15 mm between the end of the spring and the raised portion of the control arm (stop lug).

Installing the shock absorber




Insert the new shock absorber through the control arm to the upper mounting.
Install the new nut loosely.

Install:
- the cable harness on the sub-frame and the control arm for the shock absorber
- the connector on top of the sub-frame.

Installing the brake caliper





Install:
- the brake caliper
- the 2 screws for the brake caliper. Use new screws. Tighten. See: Tightening torque Tightening Torque
- the ABS sensor
- the M6 screw for the ABS sensor. Tighten, see Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Installing the shock absorber continued
Press up the control arm using a mobile jack.
Fix the shock absorber in the lower mounting. Tighten the M12 screw.
Remove the mobile jack.

Install:
- the nut for the upper mounting for the shock absorber. Tighten, see Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use socket:999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber and a Torx-wrench as a counterhold.
- soundproofing.
Fold back the front edge of the side panel in the cargo compartment. Install the clips.
Fold the rear seat backrest back into position.
Reinstall the floor mat. Install the wheels, see Installing wheels Service and Repair.

Finishing
Raise the car. Remove the tensioning strap between the control arms.
Lower the vehicle.
Check and adjust the headlamps in accordance with: Headlamps, aligning Adjustments.
