Solenoid lock-up function, replacing

Removing the transmission side cover

Later oil pump version from and including model year 2003-.




When replacing the lock-up solenoid, the oil pump must be removed from vehicles up to and including model year 2002 as described in the method below.

Removing the oil pump





Note! In order to replace the lock-up solenoid, the oil pump must be removed from the control system. This is so that the spring clip holding the solenoid can be accessed. The shiny screw (1) must not be removed, it holds the oil pump together.

Remove:
- the temperature sensor with the cable harness from the clip
- the connector from the solenoid. Fold the cable harness out of the way
- the screws, not the shiny screws (1).

Note! The dimension of the upper screws.

Removing the oil pump from the pump shaft




Pull it straight out.
Place the pump on clean paper.

Removing the lock-up solenoid





Remove:
- the spring clamp. Pull it straight out. Use a small screwdriver
- the solenoid. Use a screwdriver between the solenoid and the housing. Check that the O-rings remain on the solenoid.

Installing the lock-up solenoid




Apply a little petroleum jelly to the O-rings.

Install:
- the solenoid. Turn and press in the solenoid a little so that it bottoms against the control system
- the spring clamp. Check that the spring clamp is locked.

Installing the oil pump





Note! Ensure that mating surfaces are clean.

Lift and turn the pump slightly so that it is centered on the pump shaft.

Mounting the oil pump and connector




Finger-tighten the screws. The two upper screw heads are sized M10. The other screw heads are M8.
First tighten the screws crosswise to light contact.
Then tightenM10. Tighten to 16 Nm. Tighten M8. Tighten to 12 Nm.

Install:
- the connector
- the cable harness and the temperature sensor in their respective clips.
