Signal Missing/Faulty
Signal missing/faulty
Checking the key type
Note! Check if there are several keys (with transponders) on the same bunch. These keys should hang freely so that they do not touch the key that is being used.
Visually check if the key is the correct one for the ignition lock, see figure.
Check that the colour mark (a small semi-circular plastic marker on the key head on the shorter metal side) is the correct colour: The correct colour is grey or red.
If the colour mark is black or blue the key belongs to a different type of Volvo.
If the colour is not correct, use a key with a colour mark as described above and try it in the ignition lock. If keys with the correct colour are missing, order new ones and program them as described in Add or Remove key Installing/Removing Key.

-------------------------------------------------
Checking starting
Use the same key that did not work on the previous start attempt and try it three more times.
NB, take the key out of the ignition lock for at least two seconds between each start attempt or a new transponder check will not be done. (If the key remains in the ignition lock between each start attempt the transponder check will not be done for approximately 30 seconds after the ignition is switched off).
Some of the following can happen:
1. The engine starts every time
2. The engine sometimes starts
3. The engine does not start any time.
Choose one of the options above.
1 - Communication
2 - Faulty transponder
3 - Wrong key
-------------------------------------------------
Communication
Hint: The fault was due to a temporary interference in communication between the transponder and the Central Electronic Module.

-------------------------------------------------
Faulty transponder
The key has a faulty transponder.
Order new key(s) and program it/them as described in Add or Remove key Installing/Removing Key.
Continue - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Wrong key
The key belongs to another vehicle. The transponder code and the mechanical key code (key fits in ignition lock) correspond but the key's security code does not match with the vehicle's own security code.
Order new key(s) and program it/them as described in Add or Remove key Installing/Removing Key.

Hint: After the repair it is necessary to check that the fault has been rectified.
- Ignition off.
- Connect the connectors, install the components, etc.
- Try to start the vehicle using all the keys (which are the correct type).
Does the vehicle start using all the keys?
Yes - Verification completed

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes - Exit Fault-Tracing
No - Attempt New Test
