Location of components

The alarm function uses the following components (may differ depending on the options and market):

Terminology
The following terms are used in information about the alarm.
Activated: The car is locked and the alarm protects the car.
Deactivated: The alarm is switched off and no longer protects the car.
Reactivating: The alarm has activated itself and protects the car.
Deployed: The alarm has started and the siren sounds.

Alarm system
There are different versions of the alarm system. Some of the versions are market dependent or options:
- Basic Alarm. Doors, hood and tailgate
- Extended alarm. Has one or more of the following as additions to the basic Alarm. Mass movement sensor, the inclination sensor module and glass wire (V70/V70XC only)
- Number of alarm cycles. Market dependent. There are two choices, 1 or 10 cycles. The alarm cycle is the number of times the alarm sounds when it has been deployed. An alarm cycle means that the siren sounds for approximately 25 seconds and the hazard warning signal flashers flash for approximately 5 minutes. Once the alarm has been deployed the alarm is reactivated. If a door or hatch is left open, that door or hatch will not be included in the alarm loop when the alarm is activated once again.
Components and switches differ depending on the model year, version and equipment.

Activating the alarm
The alarm can be activated as follows:
- Using the remote control LOCK button
- Using the key in the driver's door lock cylinder (market dependent).
25 seconds after activating the alarm the car is fully protected. An acknowledgement that the alarm is activated is obtained by the alarm diode on the dashboard flashing once per second. The alarm diode does not flash and the car is not alarmed if a door is open or if a fault occurs.

Deactivating the alarm
The alarm can be deactivated as follows:
- Using the remote control UNLOCK button
- Using the key in the driver's door lock cylinder (market dependent)
- Using the key in the driver's door lock cylinder and then turning the ignition to position II
- If the key is inserted in the ignition switch within 25 seconds after the alarm is activated. This is a safety feature which prevents the alarm being deployed when a driver presses down the lock button on the remote control by mistake when sitting inside the car. The alarm is deployed if the driver takes longer than 25 seconds from depressing the lock button to inserting the key in the ignition.
An acknowledgement that the alarm is deactivated is obtained by the alarm diode on the dashboard going out and not flashing.

Reduced alarm
If the car is equipped with a mass movement sensor and/or an inclination sensor module, these can be deactivated temporarily if required.
The inclination sensor and mass movement modules are deactivated using the switch for reduced alarm on the climate control module.
The ignition key should be in position I, 0 or removed (time factor applies for a removed key).
Once the switch has been pressed an LED lights up in the switch at the same time as a (reduced alarm) message is displayed in the driver information module.
Next time the ignition key is inserted and turned to position II, the system is reset. This means that the next time the vehicle is locked from the outside, using the key or the remote control, the inclination sensor and the mass movement sensor will be activated. A message (fully alarmed) is displayed in the driver information module.

Special functions
- The alarm is also activated when automatic relocking occurs
- The alarm is activated automatically with a certain amount of delay if all doors, the tailgate and hood are closed, when the key is in position 0 or I. This function is market dependant
- If any door is not closed the alarm will not be completely activated. If a closed door is opened the alarm is deployed, the open door(s) are disconnected from the alarm loop. The mass movement sensor and the inclination sensor module are activated after a delay. If the open door or doors is/are closed, the alarm will once again be completely activated.

Acknowledgements
When the alarm is activated it is acknowledged by the alarm diode on the dashboard flashing once per second.
When the alarm is deactivated it is acknowledged by the alarm diode stopping flashing.
In the event of the alarm being deployed the following warnings are displayed to the driver:
- When the car is unlocked the alarm diode flashes approximately 3 times per second
- When the ignition key is turned to position I, a message is displayed (alarm deployed, check the car) in the driver information module.

Alarm
The alarm signals in different ways depending on what has caused the alarm to deploy:
- When the alarm has deployed by the doors, tailgate, hood, glass wires, angle or movement in the sensor, the alarm will start an alarm cycle. An alarm cycle means that the siren sounds for approximately 25 seconds and the hazard warning signal flashers flash for approximately 5 minutes. If the car has more alarm cycles (market dependent) the alarm will deploy again within 5 seconds, if the cause is still present. This procedure is repeated for the number of alarm cycles the car is programmed for. When all the alarm cycles have been run through the alarm is activated again. If a door or hatch is left open that door or hatch will not be included in the alarm loop when the alarm is activated once again
- If the battery voltage for the car suddenly disappears the siren sounds for approximately 5 minutes, then stops. In this instance the siren is supplied with power from its internal battery and does not sound as loud as when the siren is supplied with power by the car battery.
