Checking the Remote Control
Checking the remote control
Checking the remote control
Check with the customer if the remote control's function ceases in certain places or if the problem can occur at any place.
Does the remote control's function cease to work in certain places?
Yes - Information about "dead zones" for wireless communication
No - Checking the function
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the wires and components
Check that all the remote controls work by pressing any button on the remote control and activating the Smart-tool.
Options
1. None of the remote controls work
2. One or more of the remote controls work, but not all
3. All the remote controls work.
Press the button with the correct option in the above list.
1 - Replacing the component
2 - Checking the remote control
3 - Exit fault-tracing
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing the component
Replace control unit.
Before replacing the control unit all the program data should be read from the control unit, make a note of it. This is done from VIDA vehicle communication.
Additional information
- To replace control unit see Interior lighting and upper electronic module (UEM), replacing Interior Lighting and Upper Electronic Module (UEM), Replacing.
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the remote control
Check that the battery in the remote control has not discharged.
Do the necessary corrective action.
If no fault is found, replace the remote control.
If a faulty remote control is replaced by a new one, the old one has to be erased first.
Additional information
- To replace the remote control, see Ignition key/Remote control, addition/replacing/erasing Ignition Key/Remote Control, Adding/Replacing/Erasing.
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the function
Check if the vehicle can be unlocked but not locked with the remote control.
Hint: Lower a side window, turn off the ignition and pull out the ignition key slowly. That the vehicle cannot be locked with the remote control may depend on a switch at the ignition jamming.
Can the vehicle be locked with the remote control?
Yes - Checking the wires and components
No - Checking S-voltage feed
-------------------------------------------------
Checking S-voltage feed
Hint: If the switch for S-feed in the ignition jams in active position, the vehicle assumes that the ignition key is in the ignition and will then not lock the central lock on command from the remote control.
- Ignition off.
- Activate reading off the status. Click the VCT2000 symbol.
- Insert and remove the ignition key a number of times.
Check that the status changes.
Note! S voltage supply to the central electronic module (CEM) must be approximately battery voltage when the ignition key is in the ignition switch.
Remedy as necessary.

Was a fault detected?
Yes - Remedy as necessary
No - Fault-tracing information
-------------------------------------------------
Fault-tracing information
Information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes - Exit Fault-Tracing
No - Attempt New Test

Information about "dead zones" for wireless communication
Due to increased radiation in the surroundings from various forms of transmitters, in rare instance, the signal from the remote control can be interrupted. In such cases it is often in locations where the external signals mean that the transmission and reception conditions become unfavorable. The effect can be so severe that total loss can occur in some places, which means that no wireless communication can occur. This can affect all types of wireless communication, not only signals from the remote control and depends on many different units sending information within the open frequency band. If these signals negatively affect each other, wireless communication in certain places is impossible.
Examples of interfering radiation sources are:
- Mobile telephones
- Radio/TV masts
- Wireless readable electric meters
- Wireless headsets
- Microwave ovens
- Remote controls for garage door opening
- Wireless supervision cameras
- Remote controls for other vehicles
- Wireless weather stations
Inform the customer about these conditions. If the customer is regularly in the vicinity of such locations, the cause of the fault has been found. See if the vehicle can be unlocked by moving the remote control closer to the receiver (in the upper electronic module (UEM)). Alternatively the vehicle can be unlocked using the keyblade.
Note! If the vehicle is unlocked using the key blade, the alarm functions are deployed if the vehicle is equipped with an alarm. The alarm can be reset in such cases by inserting the ignition key in the ignition switch and turning to position II.
Applies to vehicles of model year 2005 and 2006.
Check that the upper electronic module (UEM) is up to date. If it is not, some of the above problems can be solved by downloading new software to the upper electronic module (UEM). The software increases the range for the remote control and increases the tolerances against these types of interference.
Note! Downloading new software can solve some problems experienced by the customer. It will not solve all problems.
