Preparation
Remove
- the torque rod mounting screw at the bracket on the engine.
- screws at cross rod mounting to suspension turret.
- cross member
- intake manifold between air cleaner (ACL) and electronic throttle module (ETM). (Applies only to B6xx4S).
- the front engine pad upper nut.
Raise car and remove
- left front wheel.
- the splash guard under the engine.
- the screw at the lower torque rod mounting for the bracket on the transmission.
- the engine pad lower screw.
- the screws at the front cross member (x4).
- the exhaust pipe mounting screws in the front cross member.
- brake pipe from its holder in the member.
- the exhaust flange nuts and gaskets.
- the nuts at the rear cross member holding the exhaust pipe to the member.
Lift the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and exhaust pipe backwards
Lift up the exhaust pipe mounting from the rear member. Use a jimmy bar. Pull the exhaust pipe backwards so that the mounting ends up behind the member.
Move the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and exhaust system backward.
Remove the screws for the sub-frame bracket holding the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) cable.
Replacing front engine pad
Position a mobile jack with universal plate 999 5972 FIXTURE 999 5972 Fixture under oil pan long, as far to the left as possible.
Note! Dry off the oil pan and the universal plate.
Check that the plate does not catch in the sub-frame.
Carefully lift up the engine so that the engine pad can be replaced.
Install a new screw in the engine pad lower mounting. Do not tighten yet.
Carefully lower the engine.
Note! Ensure that engine pad locating pin locates correctly.
Remove the mobile jack.
Finishing
Lift up the exhaust pipe at the rear member. Move the exhaust system forwards.
Install
- the rubber mounting in the cross member.
- the nuts on the rear mounting. Tighten to 25 Nm (18.4 lb.ft).
- the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) and exhaust pipe on the engine. Use new nuts and gaskets.
- exhaust manifold nuts. Tighten to 25 Nm (18.4 lb.ft).
- the screws for the bracket.
- the connectors in the sub-frame.
- exhaust pipe mounting screws. Tighten to 10 Nm (7.4 lb.ft).
- the brake pipe in its holders.
- the cross member screws. Tighten to 25 Nm (18.4 lb.ft).
Install a new screw in the lower torque rod. Tighten to 35 Nm (25.8 lb.ft) and angle-tighten 90°. Use bevel protractor 951 2050 BEVEL PROTRACTOR 951 2050 Bevel Protractor.
Tighten the lower engine pad screw to 50 Nm (36.9 lb.ft).
Install splashguard under engine.
Install the left front wheel according to Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Lower the car.
Install
- a new nut in the engine pad upper mounting. Tighten to 50 Nm (36.9 lb.ft).
- the intake manifold between air cleaner (ACL) and the electronic throttle module (ETM). Applies only to B6xx4S.
- the cross stay between the suspension turrets. Tighten the four screws to 50 Nm (36.9 lb.ft).
- a new screw for the torque rod mounting at the bracket on the engine. Tighten to 80 Nm (59.0 lb.ft).
