Brake vibrations, analysis and corrective action
Background:
This Service Bulletin describes diagnosis and the repair process in the event of vibrations and resonance noise when braking. It is primarily intended to make it easy to identify whether the vibrations are coming from the front or rear wheels.

Variation in the thickness of the front brake discs may sometimes be experienced as a pulsing brake pedal or variable deceleration during normal braking, just before coming to a standstill.
Conditions:
Customer complaints about constant vehicle vibrations and humming when braking from the brakes and not from ABS modulation.

Installing the special tool on the front brake discs 1
Remove the lower screw from the brake caliper bracket.
Install measuring tool 999 5418 and holder 999 5773 (1) as illustrated. Use screw P/N 95 5349 and a spacer sleeve (2).
Adjust holder 999 5773 50 that it does not lie against the shield or brake caliper.
Note!
Make sure the measuring tips are tight.

Dimension (A)=20 mm in on the brake disc.
Caution!
Turn the brake disc downward at the front edge (counter clockwise for the left-hand side and clockwise for the right-hand side) so that any play in the holder 999 5773 does not affect the measurement result.
A protective glove should be worn to protect your fingers.
Maximum permitted variation in thickness (DTV);

Take measurements on one of the front sides. If the variation in thickness is greater than the given maximum value, select option A1.
If the variation in thickness is less than the given maximum value, take measurements from the other front side.
If the variation in thickness is greater than the given maximum value, select option A1.
If the variation in thickness is less than the given maximum value, select option A3.

Install measuring tool 999 5418. See VADIS;
Cleaning, checking and adjusting

Measuring the permitted variation in thickness on the rear brake discs.
Install holder 999 5773.
Take measurements from one of the rear sides. If the variation in thickness is greater than the given maximum value, select option A3.
If the variation in thickness is less than the given maximum value, take measurements from the other rear side.
If the variation in thickness is greater than the given maximum value, select option A3.
If the variation in thickness is less than the given maximum value; The repair is complete.
