Turn-by-turn Navigation System
Warning! The ignition must be in position "0" and the key removed from the ignition switch if any connector in the SRS system is to be unplugged. Then wait at least three minutes and disconnect the battery negative lead before unplugging any of the connectors. When work is completed, the ignition key must be turned to position "II" before reconnecting the battery negative lead.
Turn-by-turn Navigation System
Note! The holder for the remote control can only be fitted on cars without handsfree telephone.
Note!
- Model year -2004 = V70 CH -458999, XC70 CH -172999
- Model year 2005- = V70 CH 459000-, XC70 CH 173000-
Preparations
- Move the left front seat to its rearmost position
- Turn the ignition switch to position 0.
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Note! Wait at least five minutes before disassembling the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.

- Remove the loudspeaker grille as follows:
Insert the tool, Volvo P/N 999-5919-46 in the joint between the loudspeaker grille and the dashboard approximately as illustrated, until it engages.
- Twist the tool 90° so that the bent section engages with the underneath of the loudspeaker grille.

- Pull upwards until the loudspeaker grille detaches. The loudspeaker grille is securely fastened by five clips. Move the tool closer to the clips to facilitate removal.
Note! Do not damage the dashboard.
- Remove the screws (1). Remove the bracket (2).
- Place the console to one side, it shall not be used again.
Applies to cars with centre loudspeakers
- Remove the four screws in the loudspeaker (1).
- Lift up the loudspeaker. Disconnect the connector (2).
- Place the loudspeaker to one side, it shall not be used again.
Steps 5 - 9 apply to cars up to and including model year -2004
- Remove the panel in front of the gear selector lever. Pry off the panel using a plastic weatherstrip tool.
- Remove the panel around the gear selector. Press in the catches at the front edge and lift upwards. First lift at the front edge and then at the rear edge.
- Remove the two screws from the dashboard environment panel.
- Angle the dashboard environment panel outwards so that it is possible to insert a couple of fingers between the centre console and the reverse of the panel.
- Detach the dashboard environment panel by pulling it downwards while maintaining the same angle. Some force is required because the panel is tightly installed.
- Disconnect the connectors on the reverse of the dashboard environment panel. Place the dashboard environment panel to one side.
Note! If any of the outer hooks break off, these must be repaired. The method for this can be found in the Workshop Manual in the section about the dashboard.
- Remove the screws from the radio bracket.
- Pull out the bracket with the radio. Pull the lower corner while pressing downwards.
- Detach the connectors from the radio and from the keypad to the telephone if fitted. Place the console with the radio to one side.
Steps 10-12 apply to cars from model year 2005-
- Detach the rear edge of the gear selector lever cover together with the boot until the two clips release. Use a plastic weatherstrip tool. Remove the gear selector lever cover and the boot. Pull the panel up until the four clips at the sides release.
- Engage the handbrake and move the gear selector lever towards the rear.
- Turn the cover panel to the left for better access.
- Remove the two screws holding the bracket with the radio and dashboard environment panel in the centre console.
- Remove the bracket with dashboard environment panel and the radio from the centre console: Pull the lower edge out and downwards until it releases from the mounting at the upper edge. Then fold backwards.
Note! Do not damage the removed components or the surrounding panels.
If necessary, the panel around the gear lever selector can be removed for additional space. The panel is secured with four catches on the underside along the boot.
- Disconnect the connectors from the radio and dashboard environment panel. Also disconnect the connector from the phone keypad if applicable. Place the unit to one side.
Preparations, dashboard
- Lock the steering wheel in the lowest, rearmost position.
- Remove the rubber seal from the upper steering column cover by carefully prying the 5 catches loose using a weatherstrip tool.
- Carefully pry out the 2 x clips (2) in the bottom edge of the combined instrument panel to remove the combined instrument panel surround.
- Pull the surround back until the three clips (1) at the top edge release.
Note! Do not damage the dashboard.
- Remove the four screws for the combined instrument panel.
- Pull out the combined instrument panel. Disconnect the connector on the reverse of the combined instrument panel.
- Place the combined instrument panel to one side.
Installing the bracket for the remote control holder
Steps 16 - 18 only apply to cars without handsfree telephone.
- Remove the screw (1) to the visor (the semi-circular section of the dashboard above the combined instrument panel).
- Take the bracket (2) from the kit and fit it as illustrated.
- Tighten the bracket using the screw (1) for the semi-circular section.
- Press the bracket against the mating surfaces where the three holes are to be drilled.
- Hold the bracket firmly in place. First drill the two marked holes through the bracket and the dashboard. Use a -5 mm (13/64") diameter drill bit. Use a -25 mm (1") diameter drill stop.
- Remove any swarf.
- Insert the bracing plate (1) through the hole in the dashboard.
- Secure the bracket (2) using two screws (3) from the kit while pressing the bracket against the mating surfaces.
- Tighten the screws so that the bracket is pressed into, and is at the same level as, the end face of the dashboard.
- Drill out the last hole. Use a -5 mm (13/64") diameter drill bit.
- Remove any swarf.
- Insert the bracing plate (5) through the hole in the dashboard.
- Secure the bracket using a screw (4) from the kit.
Preparations, passenger compartment and cargo compartment
- Remove the side panel (1) on the centre console. First twist the clip at the rear edge of the panel a 1/4 turn. Pull the rear edge of the panel outwards and backwards.
- Remove the sill trim panel (2).
- Remove the soundproofing panel on the left-hand side by first removing the two screws and then prying it loose at the back edge with a weatherstrip tool. It is fitted with two clips at the rear edge.
- Fold the left-hand rear seat cushion forward (1).
- Fold the left hand rear backrest (2) forward.
- Remove the left-hand side cushion by pulling the upper edge backwards and lifting it slightly upwards.
- Remove the sill trim panel at the left rear door.
- Remove the two floor hatches in the cargo compartment.
- Detach the storage box under the rear floor hatch by turning the clips on the left and right-hand sides. Turn each clip a 1/4 turn. Lift out the box.
- Remove the left-hand folding side panel in the cargo compartment. Place the side panel to one side. There is a new panel in the kit.
- Remove the left side panel. Remove the cover and the screw from the front edge.
- Pull the top of the panel inwards until the clips release.
- Fold the panel in and lift it out. Place the side panel to one side. There is a new panel in the kit.
- Remove the small insulation panel behind the fuse holder. Place the insulation panel to one side, it shall not be used again.
- Remove the fuse holder by opening the catch (1) on the top of the fuse holder. Following which, fold the holder forward and lift it from the brackets (2).
- Remove the black insulation panel by first removing the four clips, and then pull away the panel down/back starting at the rear edge. It shall not be used again.
