Turn-by-turn Navigation System (Continued)
Installing the screen holder and centre loudspeaker
- Take the holder for the screen from the kit and cut away the attached washer. It shall be used in step 34.
- File away the burrs on the washer and holder.
- Take the cable with yellow and large black connector to the screen from the kit. Thread the cable through the hole in the screen's holder.
- Fit the large connector to the screen's holder.
- Take the washer for mounting the screen's holder to the bracket and fit it on the underside of the holder.
- Take two screws from the kit and tighten the connector to the holder.
- Take the console which secures the complete unit in the dashboard from the kit. Align the screen's holder in the console and attach it with a screw from the kit. Do not tighten hard yet.
- Take the loudspeaker from the kit.
Install the loudspeaker in the console together with the screen's holder, with screws from the kit. The loudspeaker must be aligned with the cable connectors to the right in the car.
- Tighten all screws to the loudspeaker and holder.
- Align the screen with console and cable at the hole for the centre loudspeaker.
- Guide the connector from the screen down through the hole to the centre loudspeaker, along the left-hand inside of the centre console, along the air ducts under the floor carpet and out at the sill to the left-hand front door.
- Take the solid core wire with GPS antenna from the kit and route it the same way as the cable to the screen with the empty connector first. Route the GPS antenna to the socket for the combined instrument panel.
- Take the remaining long cable harness from the kit and route it the same way as above, but start by guiding it up by the sill under the carpet at the left-hand front door, with the white connector first.
- Clamp the three cable harnesses at the existing cable harness, at point (1) and at the strut (2) in the centre console. Use tie straps from the kit.
Installing the GPS antenna
- Take the bracket to the GPS antenna from the kit and clean the marked surface using isopropanol P/N 1161721. Wipe dry.
- Take the GPS antenna from the kit and clean the underneath using isopropanol P/N 1161721. Wipe dry.
- Take the double-sided adhesive tape from the kit and remove the white backing film from the tape.
- Press in the double-sided adhesive tape firmly on the underneath of the GPS antenna.
- Remove the translucent backing from the tape on the GPS antenna.
- Press the GPS antenna into the bracket firmly.
- Install the GPS antenna as far into the combined instrument panel compartment as possible.
- Take the tie strap with clip from the kit and remove the tie strap from the clip.
- Press the GPS antenna clip (1) into the existing hole. Tighten the antenna using the screw (2) from the kit.
Applies to cars without handsfree telephone
- Take the surround for the combined instrument panel and mark out the recess for the bracket.
- File out a groove (1) for the installed bracket.
- Deburr the filed recess.
Applies to all models
- Connect and reinstall the combined instrument panel.
- Reinstall the combined instrument panel surround.
- Install the rubber seal in the upper steering column cover.
Installing the remote control holder
Step 47 only applies to cars without handsfree telephone.
- Fit the remote control holder to the bracket. Use the existing plastic screws fitted in the bracket.
Cable routing
- Route the three cables under the carpet, along the left-hand side of the car, to the rear door.
- Route the wiring further above and along the front cable duct (1). Continue along the right-hand side of the rear cable duct (2).
On the large cable harness is a black/white (SB/W) solid core wire connected to one of the large connectors. This shall subsequently be connected to the relay box on the left-hand side in the bulkhead.
- Securely clamp the cables at the cable duct with tie strap (3) from the kit.
Applies to cars up to and including model year -2004
- Route the cables along the rear cable duct (1).
- If necessary, detach the connectors in the cable duct and position the three cables beneath them.
- Route the cables along the existing cable harness (2) along the top of the wheel housing and position them as illustrated.
- Connect the ground cable at the rear of the ground terminals (3) under the carpet under the seat cushion. Tighten the ground screw firmly.
Applies to cars from and including model year 2005-
- Remove the two screws on the left-hand side in the tailgate sill trim panel.
Applies to cars from and including model year 2005-
- Lift the panel and insert the ground lead in the gap between the floor support (1) and the panel (2).
- Insert the cable as far under the panel as possible. Ensure that the cable is not trapped.
- Applies to cars outside Europe:
Press in the panel and install it with the two screws.
Applies to cars from and including model year 2005-
- Continue routing the wiring along the rear cable duct (1).
- If necessary, detach the connectors in the cable duct and position the three cables beneath them.
- Route the cables along the existing cable harness (2) along the top of the wheel housing and position them as illustrated.
- Connect the ground cable to the ground terminal (3) in the rear crossmember behind the battery. Tighten the ground screw firmly.
Connection to the relay box
- Remove the screw in the panel to the bonnet release and remove the bonnet release from the side of the body.
- Thread the bonnet release through the hole in the carpet and fold the carpet away from the side of the body.
- Position the edge of the carpet under the pedals.
- Pull forward the black/white (SB/W) solid core wire routed earlier and position it as illustrated.
Steps 55-58 apply to cars from and including model year 2005-
- Remove the 60-pin black connector from the rear side/underneath of the relay box on the left-hand side under the dashboard. First press in the release button at the blue catch, following which turn the catch as far as possible until the connector releases.
- Remove the connector from the holder by carefully prizing out the two catches at the sides, and then press out the connector.
Connection in connector
- Install the cable terminal P/N 9442486 from the kit on the routed black/white (SB/W) solid core wire.
- Connect the black/white (SB/W) solid core wire to position 59 in the connector. The positions are marked with small figures on end faces of the connector.
- Reinstall the connector in the holder and install the connector in the relay box.
- Fold back the carpet. Reinstall the bonnet release and tighten it with the screw.
The connection in the connector at position 59 is in use by another cable
- Undo and cut the cable in position 59 a bit from the connector so that the new cable can be spliced together with this one using a crimping sleeve.
- Splice the leads as illustrated in steps 59-61.
- Reinstall the connector in the holder and reinstall the connector in the relay box.
- Fold back the carpet.
- Reinstall the bonnet release and tighten it with the screw.
