Checking the WHIPS system, version one

Note! The WHIPS system must be checked after every collision

Fold or angle the backrest forward.
Lift the upholstery / impact protection at the end mounting.

Check on the outside that the green indicator pin (G) is intact.
Gently pull the indicator pin to check that it is in position and is undamaged. If the indicator pin is missing or deformed, the deformation element must be replaced. See Replacing WHIPS Replacing WHIPS for mechanical front seats. See Replacing WHIPS Replacing WHIPS for power seats.

Checking the WHIPS system, version two

Note! The WHIPS system must be checked after every collision

Note! The illustration shows the left-hand side mounting. The right-hand side is the mirror image.

The nut always faces the center of the seat.
(A) = reference mark. Always the second outermost section of the WHIPS mounting.
(B) = deformation element in the WHIPS mounting.

Fold the backrest backwards.

Check that the marking / edge of the deformation element (B) is not in front of the reference mark (A). See the illustration.
If the deformation section (B) is in front of the reference mark, the deformation element must be replaced. See Replacing WHIPS Replacing WHIPS for mechanical front seats. See Replacing WHIPS Replacing WHIPS for power seats.

Note! The deformation element must be replaced if it is deformed.

Note! Always check both the right and left sides of both front seats.
