Spring struts, front, replacing

Removing the spring strut





Remove
- the wheel
- the anti-roll bar link from the spring strut. Use a Torx wrench as a counterhold so that the boot is not damaged
- the ABS sensor. Hang up the sensor using a piece of wire
- the ABS line from the spring strut.




Measure the position of the wheel spindle and spring strut. See Wheel knuckle / spring strut, calibrating Procedures.
- both screws retaining the spring strut in the wheel spindle.




- the three nuts holding the spring strut mounting in the bodywork
- the spring strut.

Installing the spring strut





Install
- the spring strut in the car body withnew nuts. Tighten to 25 Nm.




- the spring strut to the wheel spindle. Usenew screws and new nuts.

Adjust the spring strut and wheel spindle to the measured value. See Wheel knuckle / spring strut, calibrating Procedures.

Note! When replacing the shock absorber, the wheel camber alignment must be adjusted. See Wheel alignment, checking / adjusting Service and Repair.

Tighten to 105 Nm. Angle-tighten 90°. Use bevel protractor 951 2050 BEVEL PROTRACTOR 951 2050 Bevel Protractor
- the anti-roll bar link to the spring strut. Use a new nut. Tighten to 50 Nm. Counterhold with a Torx wrench to prevent damage to the boot
- the ABS sensor.

Note! Ensure that the ABS sensor seat in the wheel spindle is completely clean. Clean the ABS sensor with a soft brush. Tighten the sensor. Tighten to 10 Nm.

- the ABS sensor cable
