Exchange unit radio/CD player HU-80X

Background

Under certain circumstances, the main flat cable from the CD player mechanism may chafe, causing erratic functionality. The corrective action will be to replace the radio and re-route the location of the flat cable.

Reading the serial number 1

Read the serial number off the radio/CD player. See VADIS:
Vehicle communication
Function group 3
Reading off the control module ID.

Replacing the radio/CD player 2

If the serial number of the radio/CD player is between 010727000000 - 011014999999, the radio/CD player must be replaced with a replacement unit.

The first digits in the serial number are a date code:
YYMMDD, Y = Year M = Month D = Day
(011005000058 = 2001, October, 05)

Removing the radio/CD player 3

Remove all CDs from the radio/CD player.
Do not open the radio/CD player or use force to eject the CDs.

Radio/carphone (Radio cassette player), replacing.
Keep the radio/CD player in the same position as it was originally installed in the vehicle (at an angle of 15-20 degrees). See illustration (A).

Set the CD mechanism to its default mode:
Switch on the ignition.
Disconnect the green connector from the radio/CD player and wait 5 seconds.
Reconnect the green connector to the radio/CD player.
The CD player will now turn to its default mode.
Wait until there is no sound from the CD mechanism. Disconnect all the connectors. Remove the radio/CD player.





Installing transportation screws on removed radio/CD players 4

Install the warning decal on the radio/CD player.
Move the transportation screws and clips at the rear edge from the exchange unit to the removed unit.
Tighten the screws. Tighten to 4 Nm.
Secure the decal on the reverse of the radio/CD player (1). Use tape.

Note!
The transportation screws must not be installed if the CD player does not return to its default mode.

When connecting, it is important that the radio/CD player is in the same position as it was originally installed in the car (at an angle of 15-20 degrees). See the illustration (A).
Connect all the connectors.
Install the radio/CD player according to the method in VADIS.

Test the functionality 6

Note!
The old radio/CD player must be returned immediately using the standard replacement routines.
