The thermostatically controlled air cleaner, Fig. 7, blends the incoming air according to engine and ambient temperature.
With a cold incoming air charge, a temperature switch activates a vacuum motor which opens the air cleaner flap allowing warm air flowing from the manifold assembly (opening A) to enter the air cleaner.
A warm incoming air charge does not activate the vacuum motor. With the vacuum motor not activated, the air cleaner flap is closed and ambient air enters through the air cleaner duct (opening B).
