GENERAL: All crankcase breather systems prevent crankcase vapors from being ignited by intake backfire. The GV used a spiral wire brush-like trap in the breather hose at the air cleaner connection for this purpose.
This additional trap is unnecessary since the hose connection is outboard of the air filter element, which serves as an effective flame barrier.
The flame trap has been deleted in production.
SERVICE: The flame trap may be removed from the crankcase breather hose during routine service and discarded.
