Replace


The engine, transmission and differential are removed as an assembly from below the vehicle.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system. Remove spare tire from engine compartment.
2. Disconnect air cleaner snorkel flexible hose from front of vehicle, then the hoses from beneath the air cleaner. Remove air cleaner.
3. Disconnect primary and secondary wiring from distributor.
4. Disconnect wiring from alternator, starter, oil pressure and water temperature sending units, and the back-up light switch.
5. Disconnect air hoses and vacuum valve from air injection diverter valve.
6. Disconnect accelerator cable and the choke and shutoff solenoid wiring from carburetor.
7. Disconnect vacuum and fuel evaporative hoses from carburetor and intake manifold.
8. Disconnect fuel hoses and lines from carburetor.
9. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
10. Disconnect radiator hoses from thermostat housing and the heater hoses from engine.
11. Disconnect speedometer cable from transmission and clutch cable from clutch release lever.
12. Raise and support vehicle so that the assembly may be lowered from vehicle.
13. Support engine and transmission assembly with suitable equipment.
14. Remove front wheels.
15. Disconnect tie rods from steering knuckle.
16. Remove bolts securing sway bar brackets to body and the sway bar-to-control rod nuts. Remove sway bar from vehicle.
17. Remove bolts securing struts to steering knuckle.
18. Remove axle shaft retaining nuts, then work constant velocity joints from seat in steering knuckle. Support each axle shaft with wire to retain shafts in differential seats.
19. Remove exhaust pipe support bracket and the ground strap from transmission.
20. Disconnect shift linkage from transmission.
21. Remove crossmember and disconnect reaction strut from engine.
22. Remove engine front right side mount bolt.
23. Lower assembly from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedure to install.
