SUBJBCT: Yugo Voluntary Recall Campaign on 1990/1991 Yugo GV Plus Vehicles

Yugo America, Inc. has identified a production defect affecting 1990 and some 1991 model Yugo GV Plus vehicles and is initiating a voluntary recall to correct it. The problem is poor sealing of the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) or (PCME) on its mounting studs at the firewall, which can allow water to infiltrate the unit, resulting in its failure. In order to repair the defect, rubber sealing washers must be installed on the ECU mounting studs between the unit and the firewall to prevent water ingress.

A production running change has been instituted to address the problem on future shipments of vehicles. A port modification program has also been initiated so that all future vehicle deliveries will be unaffected by this recall. Port-rectified vehicles can be identified by the presence of a colored sticker on the plastic shield under the passenger's side of the dashboard.

Yugo GV Plus model vehicles retailed to date will be recalled for repair of this problem. In addition, all such models currently in your dealership's inventory should also be repaired prior to retail delivery.
