Owner Letter

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor vehicle safety Act. Yugo America, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in your 1990/1991 Yugo GV Plus.

The problem we have identified is poor sealing of the Electronic Control Unit (the vehicle's main computer which controls combustion and ignition processes); at the vehicle firewall. Water contamination can cause the unit to fail, which would result in the vehicle stalling, and its failure to restart. A stalled motor vehicle can present a significant traffic hazard, depending upon when and where it occurs.

Your Yugo dealer will repair this defect free of charge. Rubber sealing washers will be fitted between the Electrcnic Control Unit and the vehicle firewall to prevent water ingress. The repair requires approximately one hour to complete. We recommend that you contact your Yugo dealer to set up an appointment for this repair at your earliest possible convenience upon receipt of this notice. In the interim, until the vehicle is repaired at an authorized Yugo service facility, we recommend that you avoid driving your Yugo GV Plus in heavy rain or through standing water, as these conditions are most likely to result in the failure mode described above.

You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to file a complaint should you believe that your dealer has failed to remedy the defect, or has failed to remedy the defect within a reasonable time period (defined as within 60 days of your first attempt to have the vehicle repaired), or fails to remedy the defect free of charge.
