DTC 21

DTC 21, 22, 23, 24: Abnormally High Tire Sensor Temperature

1. Stop the vehicle and let the tires cool down sufficiently. Check the appropriate tire.

NOTE:
^ Excessive application of the brakes will cause abnormal rise of the internal temperature of the tires.
^ Failure to release the parking brake will cause abnormal rise of the internal temperature of the rear tires.
^ Improper assembly of the wheel and tire will cause abnormal rise of the internal temperature of the tire.
^ A parked running vehicle will increase the front tire's temperature significantly.

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Does the TPMS indicator go off within one minute ?
YES - The system is OK at this time. Clear the DTC.
NO - Go to step 3.
3. Read the internal temperature of the tire monitor value with the HDS.

NOTE: If the response is not shown on the HDS, turn the appropriate tire 1/4 turn with the ignition switch turned OFF, then retry after turning the ignition switch ON (II) again.

Is the monitor value of the internal temperature of the appropriate tire 176°F (80°C) or above?
YES - Replace the tire pressure sensor.
NO - Check for loose wires or poor connections at the TPMS control unit connectors. If necessary, substitute a known-good TPMS control unit and recheck.
