DTC B1779: HFL Switch or HFL-Voice Control Switch (HFL TALK/HFL BACK Buttons) Circuit Open/Short to Power

1. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel back and forth several times.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1779 indicated?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
6. Do the HFL-voice control switch test.

Is the switch OK?

YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Replace the HFL-voice control switch.

7. Remove the passenger's console trim.
8. Disconnect the 22P connector from the Hands Free Link control unit.
9. Disconnect the 6P connector from the HFL-voice control switch.




10. Check for continuity between the Hands Free Link control unit 22P connector terminal No. 2 and HFL-voice control switch 7P connector terminal No. 4.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to step 11.

NO - Repair an open in the BLU wire between the switch, cable reel, and Hands Free Link control unit.

11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).




12. Measure the voltage between Hands Free Link control unit 22P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

Is there voltage?

YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the Hands Free Link control unit and the HFL-voice control switch.

NO - Go to step 13.

13. Turn the ignition switch OFF.




14. Check for continuity between HFL-voice control switch 7P connector terminal No. 5 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES - Replace the Hands Free Link control unit.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the switch, cable reel, and the audio unit.
