DTC 9-4
DTC 9-4: Faulty front passenger's seat belt buckle switch1. Check the connections at the front seat belt buckle switch 3P and passenger's power seat wire harness 3P connectors, at the passenger's power seat wire harness 10P and right side wire harness 10P connectors, at the right side wire harness 14P and dashboard wire harness A 14P connectors, at the dashboard wire harness A 8P and SRS main harness 8P connectors, and at the SRS main harness 8P and the SRS unit 8P connectors.
Are the connections OK?
YES - Go to step 2.
NO - Poor contact; reconnect the affected connector(s) securely.
2. Buckle the front passenger's seat belt,
3. Erase the DTC memory.
4. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 9-4 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Go to step 8.
5. Unbuckle the front passenger's seat belt.
6. Erase the DTC memory.
7. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 9-4 Indicated?
YES - Go to step 19.
NO - Go to step 27.
8. Unbuckle the front passenger's seat belt.
9. Erase the DTC memory.
10. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 9-4 indicated?
YES - Go to step 11.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.
11. Make sure the front passenger's seat belt is unbuckled, then disconnect the battery negative cable.
12. Disconnect the SRS main harness 8P connector (A) from the SRS unit (B).
13. Check resistance between the No. 7 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be 1 MOhm or more.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 14.
NO - Go to step 17.
14. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit.
NO - Go to step 15.
15. Disconnect the SRS main harness 8P connector (A) from the dashboard wire harness A 8P connector (B).
16. Check resistance between the No. 2 terminal of the dashboard wire harness A 8P connector and body ground. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Open in the SRS main harness; replace the SRS main harness.
NO - Open in dashboard wire harness A, in the right side wire harness, or in the passenger's power seat wire harness or faulty front passenger's seat belt buckle switch; replace the faulty harness or seat belt buckle.
17. Disconnect the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).
18. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty front passenger's seat belt buckle switch; replace the front passenger's seat belt buckle.
NO - Short to ground in the passenger's power seat wire harness, in the right side wire harness, in dashboard wire harness A or in the SRS main harness; replace the faulty harness.
19. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the SRS main harness 8P connector (A) from the SRS unit (B).
20. Check resistance between the No. 7 and No. 3 terminals of the SRS main harness 8P connector. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 21.
NO - Go to step 25.
21. Make sure front seat belt is unbuckled.
22. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit.
NO - Go to step 23.
23. Disconnect the front passenger's seat belt switch 3P connector (A).
24. Check resistance between the No. 3 and No. 1 terminals of the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Open in the right side wire harness; replace the right side wire harness.
NO - Faulty front seat belt buckle switch; replace the front seat belt buckle.
25. Disconnect the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).
26. Check resistance between the No. 3 and No. 7 terminals of the SRS main harness 8P connector. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch; replace the front passenger's seat belt buckle.
NO - Short to another wire in the passenger's power seat wire harness, in the right side wire harness, in the dashboard wire harness or in the SRS main harness; replace the faulty harness.
27. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then buckle the front passenger's seat belt.
28. Disconnect the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).
29. Check resistance between the No. 1 and No. 2 terminals of the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 30.
NO - Open in the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch; replace the front passenger's seat belt buckle.
30. Check resistance between the No. 1 and No. 3 terminals of the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 31.
NO - Short in the front passenger's seat belt buckle switch; replace the front passenger's seat belt buckle.
31. Disconnect the SRS main harness 8P connector (A) from the SRS unit (B).
32. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 33.
NO - Go to step 34.
33. Check resistance between the No. 7 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and the No. 2 terminal of the passenger's power seat wire harness 3P connector. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit.
NO - Open in the passenger's power seat wire harness, in the right side wire harness, in dashboard wire harness A or in the SRS main harness; replace the faulty harness.
34. Disconnect the right side wire harness 14P connector (A) from the dashboard wire harness A 14P connector (B).
35. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the SRS main harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Short to ground in the right side wire harness or in the passenger's power seat wire harness; replace the faulty harness.
NO - Short to ground in dashboard wire harness A or in the SRS main harness; replace the faulty harness.
