DTC 97: VSA-TCS Control Valve Actuator1. Check the VSA (40A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box, and reinstall the fuse if it is OK.
Is the fuse OK?
YES-Go to step 3.
NO-Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse is blown, check for a short to body ground in the wire between the under-hood fuse/relay box and the VSA fuse holder.
2. Check the VSA (20 A) fuse (wire colors: BLU, PNK) in the VSA fuse holder, and reinstall the fuse if it is OK.
Is the fuse OK?
YES-Go to step 3.
NO-Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse is blown, check for a short to body ground in the wire between the VSA fuse holder and the VSA control unit.
3. Check the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay, and leave the relay removed if it is OK.
Is the relay OK ?
YES-Go to step 4.
NO-Replace the relay, and recheck.
4. Measure the voltage between the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES-Go to step 5.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the underhood fuse/relay box and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relayed
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
6. Measure the voltage between the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES-Go to step 7.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the fail-safe relay and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay.
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
8. Disconnect VSA control unit connector A(22P).
9. Connect the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
10. Measure the voltage between VSA control unit connector A(22P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.
Is there about 10 V?
YES-Go to step 11.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the VSA control unit and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay.
11. Disconnect VSA control unit connector B (16P), and remove the jumper wire from the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay 4P connector.
12. Check for continuity between VSA control unit connector B (16P) terminal No. 12 and VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay 4P connector terminal No. 3.
Is there continuity?
YES-Go to step 13.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the VSA control unit and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator relay.
13. Check for continuity between VSA control unit connector A(22P) terminal No. 22 and body ground.
Is there continuity ?
YES-Go to step 14.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the VSA control unit and body ground.
14. Disconnect the VSA-TCS control valve actuator 2P connector.
15. Check for continuity between body ground and the VSA control unit connector A(22P) terminals No. 11 and No. 21 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES-Repair short to body ground in the wire between the VSA control unit and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator.
NO-Go to step 16.
16. Reconnect VSA control unit connector A (22P) and connector B (16P).
17. Check for continuity between VSA control unit connector C (26P) terminal No. 23 and body ground.
Is there continuity ?
YES-Go to step 18.
NO-Replace the VSA control unit, and recheck.
18. Disconnect VSA control unit connector A (22P) and connector B (16P).
19. Check for continuity between VSA control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 11 and VSA-TCS control valve actuator 2P connector terminal No. 1.
Is there continuity?
YES-Go to step 20.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the VSA control unit and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator.
20. Check for continuity between VSA control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 21 and VSA-TCS control valve actuator 2P connector terminal No. 2.
Is there continuity?
YES-Go to step 21.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the VSA control unit and the VSA-TCS control valve actuator.
21. Check for continuity between the VSA-TCS control valve actuator 2P connector (actuator side) terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES-Replace the VSA-TCS control valve assembly.
NO-Go to step 22.
22. Measure the resistance between the VSA-TCS control valve actuator 2P connector (actuator side) terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
Is there 1.1 to 2.0 ohms ?
YES-Go to step 23.
NO-Replace the VSA-TCS control valve assembly.
23. Connect battery power to the VSA-TCS control valve actuator 2P connector terminal No. 1, and ground connector terminal No. 2 for 1 second.
NOTE:
^ Be careful not to short the terminals.
^ After checking, disconnect the terminals.
Does the VSA-TCS control valve operate smoothly ?
YES-Check for loose VSA control unit connectors. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA control unit, and recheck.
NO-Replace the VSA-TCS control valve assembly.
