No Sound is Heard From Speakers (Display Is Normal)
No sound is heard from speaker(s) (display is normal)NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first.
- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.
- Before doing symptom troubleshooting, do the power switch will not turn on troubleshooting.
- Always check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio unit and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM, and tape/CD).
Is the sound OK in each mode?
YES - Intermittent failure. The system is OK at this time. Check for loose connections at the audio unit and amplifier.
NO - Go to step 3.
3. Check that the volume button is not set to the min level.
Is it at the MIN level?
YES - Raise the volume level, and recheck the function.
NO - Go to step 4.
4. On the steering wheel, check the navigation talk command, and/or the HandsFreeLink talk command functions.
Are the navigation talk command and/or the HFL talk command functions set?
YES - Cancel the navigation talk command by pressing the navigation BACK button, and for the HFL talk command, press the HFL BACK button, then recheck the function.
NO - Go to step 5.
5. Do the speaker check mode in the self-diagnostic function.
Do any or all of the speakers fail to sound?
YES - Speaker(s) failed the test:
- If at least one speaker is OK, go to step 6.
- If all speakers fail to sound, go to stereo amplifier has no sound.
NO - Speakers all work, but sound quality is poor in step 1.
- If sound is poor only with XM radio, or the XM radio does not function, go to poor or no sound with XM radio.
- If the sound is poor only with AM or FM, go to poor AM or FM radio reception or interference.
- If the sound is poor only with tape/disc.
- Try several known-good tapes/discs in the audio unit.
- If the sound quality is normal, the original tape/disc is faulty.
- If the sound quality is still poor, replace the audio unit.
- If the sound is poor in all modes, go to sound quality diagnosis. Sound Quality Diagnosis
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Remove the speaker(s) that fail to sound, and disconnect its connector.
8. Do the speaker test.
Is the speaker OK?
YES - Go to step 9.
NO - Replace the speaker.
9. Remove the right kick panel, and disconnect stereo amplifier connector A (14P).
10. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector A (14P) terminals and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the stereo amplifier and speaker.
NO - Go to step 11.
11. Connect each speaker 2P connector terminal No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
12. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector A (14P) terminals according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 13.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and the speaker.
13. Remove the audio-HVAC display module assembly, and disconnect audio unit connector A (20P) and C (40P).
NOTE: Eject all the discs before removing the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD/DVD player's load mechanism.
14. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector B (20P).
15. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector B (20P) and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the stereo amplifier and the audio unit.
NO - Go to step 16.
16. Check for continuity between stereo amplifier connector B (20P) and audio unit connectors A (20P) and C (40P) according to the table.
Is there continuity
YES - Go to step 17
NO - Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and audio unit.
17. Substitute a known-good stereo amplifier.
18. Reconnect all connectors.
19. Do the speaker check mode in the self-diagnosis.
Are there any failed speakers?
YES - Replace the audio unit.
NO - The original stereo amplifier is faulty; replace it.
