Poor or no sound with XM radio (Audio unit does display XM channels)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connector for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check the radio reception in an open area. Compare it to a known-good vehicle whenever possible. Poor reception/interference can be caused by tall buildings, mountains, or high-voltage power lines are nearby.
- If you can only tune to channel 000, 001, 174, and 247, make sure the audio unit is set to channel mode (see Owners Manual). If it is set to channel mode, call XM Radio client support, and check the account activation status.
- If you replace the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver), the AcuraLink must be reactivated by Acura Client Services.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio system and select XM radio.
3. Check for an error message on the display.
Are there any messages displayed?
YES -
Go to error code list Audio System Error Codes.
NO -
- With AcuraLink: Go to step 4.
- Without AcuraLink: Go to step 8.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Disconnect these connectors:
- Audio unit connector C (14P)
- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
- USB adapter control unit connector A (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
6. Check for continuity between body ground and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) according to the table. Then check for continuity between the same terminals listed in the table and audio unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 4 (the harness shield).
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) or short between the shielded wire. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 7.
7. Check for continuity between AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Removal/Installation, then reconnect all connectors, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, update the AcuraLink control unit if it does not have the latest software, then recheck. If the software is the latest, replace the AcuraLink control unit AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Removal/Installation. If symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.
8. Disconnect these connectors:
- Audio unit connector C (14P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
- USB adapter control unit connector A (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
9. Check for continuity between body ground and the XM receiver connector C (14P) according to the table. Then check for continuity between the same terminals listed in the table and audio unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 4 (the harness shield).
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the XM receiver or short between the shielded wire. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 10.
10. Check for continuity between XM receiver connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good XM receiver XM Receiver Removal / Installation, then reconnect all connectors and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original XM receiver XM Receiver Removal / Installation. If symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.
