Sunroof / Moonroof Frame: Service and Repair




Moonroof Frame and Drain Tube Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to scratch the interior trim, the body, or tear the seat covers.

Frame Replacement

1. Remove the headliner:

- Sedan Service and Repair
- Sport Wagon Service and Repair

2. Disconnect the front drain tubes (A) and the rear drain tubes (B).





3. Detach the harness clip (C).

4. With an assistant holding the frame (A), remove the bolts, starting at the rear, and release the rear hooks (B) by moving the frame forward.





5. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the frame through the front door opening.

Front Drain Tube Replacement

6. Remove these items:

- Dashboard/steering hanger beam Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/Installation
- EPS control unit (passenger's side) Service and Repair

7. Remove the front drain tube (A).

1. Detach the clips (B).

2. Passenger's side: Remove the drain tube from the tube clip (C).

3. Remove the front drain valve (D).

NOTE: The passenger's side is shown; the driver's side is similar.






Rear Drain Tube Replacement (Sedan)

8. Remove these items from the trunk compartment .

- Trunk floor
- Trunk rear trim panel
- Trunk side trim panel

9. Remove the rear drain tube (A).

1. Remove the rear drain tube from the tube clip (B).

2. Remove the rear drain valve (C) from the body.

3. Tie a string to the top end of the drain tube.

4. Pull the drain tube down out of the C-pillar.

NOTE: Leave the string in the pillar to use when reinstalling the drain tube.










Rear Drain Tube Replacement (Sport Wagon)

10. Remove the subwoofer (right side):

- With ELS audio
- With premium audio

11. Remove the rear drain tube (A).

1. Detach the clips (B, C, D) securing the rear drain tube.

2. Remove the rear drain valve (E) from the body.

NOTE: Take care not to damage the side curtain airbag.





12. Install the frame and the drain tubes in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Sport Wagon: If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- Before installing the frame, clear the drain tubes and the drain valves using compressed air.
- Sedan: To install a new drain tube, tie the string that was left in the pillar to the top end of the new drain tube, and pull it up into the roof.
- After installing the drain tube, make sure there are no bends in it.
- Check the frame seal.
- Clean the surface of the frame.
- When installing the frame, first attach the rear hooks into the body holes.
- Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
- When connecting the drain tubes, slide them over the frame nozzles at least 10 mm (0.39 in).
- Install the tube clips (A) on the drain tubes (B) as shown.
- After all parts are installed, including the headliner, reset the moonroof control unit Testing and Inspection.
- Do the glass position adjustment procedure Adjustments.
