DTC Troubleshooting: B1382
DTC B1382:
Power Tailgate Closer Unit Full Latch Switch Circuit Malfunction
NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A Troubleshooting - B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.
1. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
2. Close the tailgate manually.
3. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1382 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the power tailgate control unit and the power tailgate closer unit.
6. Slowly close the tailgate manually.
7. Operate the power tailgate outer handle and wait for 10 seconds. Check for the closer motor release operation.
Can you hear the closer motor operate?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Go to step 8.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
9. Check the No. 7 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 10.
NO -
Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground on the No. 7 (20 A) fuse circuit.
10. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector B (20P).
11. Measure the voltage between power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) terminal No. 12 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 12.
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
12. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector A (2P).
13. Check for continuity between power tailgate closer unit connector A (2P) terminals No. 1 and No. 2 and power tailgate control unit connector B (20P) terminals No. 20 and No. 9 respectively.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 14.
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire(s).
14. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector A (5P).
15. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector A (5P) terminals No. 1 and No. 4 and body ground individually.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire(s) or poor ground (G901).
16. Open the tailgate.
17. Select POWER TAILGATE from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu, and enter the DATA LIST.
18. Check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH HALF LATCH with the DATA LIST.
Is the information indicator ON?
YES -
Go to step 19.
NO -
Go to step 22.
19. With the tailgate open, check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH FULL LATCH with the DATA LIST, then turn the tailgate latch to the half latch position using a screwdriver, and check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH FULL LATCH with the DATA LIST.
Are both information indicators ON?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Go to step 29.
20. Turn the tailgate latch to the full latch position using a screwdriver.
21. Check the ON/OFF information of the TAILGATE LOCK SWITCH FULL LATCH with the DATA LIST.
Is the information indicator OFF?
YES -
Do the steps 22 to 28, 29 to 35, and 36 to 43.
NO -
Go to step 36.
22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
23. Close the tailgate.
24. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
25. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector C (14P).
26. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Go to step 27.
27. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P).
28. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 1 and power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) terminal No. 3.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
29. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
30. Operate the tailgate outer handle and release the tailgate latch, then close the tailgate manually.
31. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
32. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector C (14P).
33. With the tailgate open, check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11, then turn the tailgate latch to the half latch position using a screwdriver and check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.
Is there continuity in each condition?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
NO -
Go to step 34.
34. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P).
35. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminal No. 2 and power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) terminal No. 2.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
36. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
37. Operate the tailgate outer handle and release the tailgate latch, then close the tailgate manually.
38. Open the tailgate with the tailgate outer handle.
39. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connector C (14P).
40. Turn the tailgate latch to the full latch position using a screwdriver.
41. Check for continuity between power tailgate control unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 2 and No. 11.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the power tailgate control unit Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
NO -
Go to step 42.
42. Disconnect power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P).
43. Check for continuity between power tailgate closer unit connector B (6P) terminal No. 2 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -
Replace the power tailgate closer unit Service and Repair.
