DTC 00281 Speed Sender

- Connect test box VAG 1598 to transmission wiring harness 55-pin connector. Refer to Connecting VAG 1598 Pin Out Box.

- Switch DVOM to resistance measuring range 2 k Ohms or better and connect between sockets 2 and 38 on VAG 1598

^ Must be 1 k Ohm

- Connect DVOM between sockets 2 and 20, and between sockets 38 and 20

^ Must be infinite Ohms


- Check wiring between 8-pin connector on the transmission and 55-pin plug on the transmission wiring harness if these values or one of the values are not reached

Checks with DTC display

00283 Speed sensor for ABS front left (G 47)
00285 Speed sensor for ABS front right (G 45)
00287 Speed sensor for ABS rear right (G 44)
00290 Speed sensor for ABS rear left (G 46)

Note: If the fault 00281 Speed sender - (G 68) is also displayed, this fault should be remedied before checking the connection lead between the transmission control module and the ABS control module.

- Connect test box VAG 1598 to transmission control module. Refer to Connecting VAG 1598 Pin Out Box.

- Remove connector from ABS control module on left kickpanel under rear seat bench and check connection lead between transmission control module and the 35-pin connector of ABS control module.

- Switch DVOM to measurement range for resistance measurement (Ohm range) and check for continuity.

TCM Connector:

- Must be 0 - 0.5 Ohms

- Repair open circuit according to wiring diagram if one of these values is not reached.

- Check ABS using tester VAG 1710 if all values are reached

Note: Replace ABS control module, if no speed sensor defects are found when the ABS is checked.
