DTC 00518 Throttle valve potentiometer

- Connect test box VAG 1598 to transmission control module. Refer to Connecting VAG 1598 Pin Out Box.

- Set DVOM to measurement range 2 VDC and connect between sockets 8 and 44 on VAG 1598.

- Switch on ignition.

^ Must be approximately 0.2 volts.

- Press accelerator pedal slowly to the floor.

^ Voltage must rise smoothly with out jumping.

- Set DVOM to measurement range 20 VDC and connect between sockets 44 and 27 and 44 and 45 in turn.

- Must be 4.5-5.5 volts.

- If not: check wire between transmission control module and Throttle valve potentiometer.

- Switch off ignition.

- Remove plug from throttle valve potentiometer.

- Switch DVOM to resistance measurement range and check wires between 6-pin plug and the sockets in the test box VAG 1598.

^ Must be 0-0.5 Ohms.

- If no open circuit is detected, switch DVOM to range 20 VDC.

- Switch on ignition.

- Connect DVOM between contacts 6 and 5.

- Must be 4.5-5.5 volts.

- If not: replace transmission control module.

- Adjust or replace throttle valve potentiometer as necessary.
