Convertible Top Latch: Service and Repair

Convertible top lock and seals, removing and installing





1 - Front seal
Dimension -a- must be 3 mm (0.12 in.) from edge of reinforcement rail to edge of convertible top

Removing:
- Remove bolts for attaching retaining strip front seal ~ Fig. 1
- Bend rubber seal and loosen bolts underneath, pull front seal laterally and remove
- When replacing, pre-adjust seal to dimension -a-

CAUTION! When removing and installing the front seal, do not bend or twist corners (second technician required). The seal has a lacquer/lubricant, coating which can crack if the seal is twisted or bent.

2 - Center seal
To remove, bend open rubber, loosen bolts underneath and remove center seal laterally

Note: Before removing seal, open convertible top until the center seal is accessible. Center seal -2- and rear seal -3- should not contact impact edges.

3 - Rear seal
Same removal procedure as for center seal
When installing, pre-adjust seal to dimension -a-
Dimension -a- must be 3 mm (approx. 1/8 in.) from edge of reinforcement rail to edge of convertible top

Note: Adjust front, center and rear seals so that door windows or rear side windows fit into seals exactly ~ Fig. 2.

4- Handle
Removing ~ see below
Remove cover -5- to remove
5 - Cover
Remove bolts on left and right sides and on face
To completely remove cover, remove handle -4-
6 - Bolt
7 - Convertible top lock, left
8 - Convertible top lock
Guide bolts on convertible top locks on left and right sides must fit into center of guides on lock components

- Remove bolts (arrows) and retaining strip -1-.

- Loosen bolts -2- and push seal -1- in direction of arrow until dimension -b- is attained.

Dimension -b-: 8 mm (+2/-0 mm) [0.31 in. (+0.08/-0 in.)].


Removing handle

- Remove bolts on left and right sides and on face of cover.



- Position handle as shown and raise cover until hole (arrow) in center of convertible lock is visible.
- Insert thin wire into hole (arrow) to secure center component and prevent it from springing out.
Diameter of wire approx. 1.5 mm (1/16 in.).




- Drive out pin.
- Remove handle.
- Remove cover.

Caution! The wire, used to prevent the center component from springing out, must only be removed after the handle is installed.
