Readiness code, generating

Required special tools and test equipment







- VAG 1788/10 RPM adjuster

Requirements

- Engine off
- Electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must NOT run during test).
- Coolant temperature min. 80 ° C (185 ° F)

Work step 1: Check DTC memory
- Connect Vehicle Diagnostic, Test and Information System VAS 5051 or VAG 1551 Scan Tool to vehicle and select control module for engine electronics using "address word" 01, [1][2]Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks

The ignition is switched on.

When indicated on display

Select function XX



- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select function "Check DTC Memory" and press -Q- button to confirm input.

Number of stored DTCs or "No DTC recognized" will be indicated on display.

X DTC recognized!

If a DTC is stored:
- Repair malfunction, erase DTC memory. Road test vehicle and then re-check DTC memory as a control measure.

If no DTC is stored:
- Press -> button.

Work step 2: Erase DTC Memory
- Ignition switched on

When indicated on display

- Press button -0- and -5- to select function "Erase DTC Memory" and press -Q- button to confirm input.


NOTE: When DTC memory is erased, readiness code is reset and must therefore be re-generated.


When indicated on display

- Press -> button.

The readiness code can be generated in two methods:
- The control module executes exhaust relevant tests during driving cycles at various load conditions, therefore the readiness code is self-generated.

or

- Generate readiness code as follows.

Work step 3: Diagnostic of EVAP canister purge regulator valve.

Test requirements
- Engine at idle
- Coolant temperature greater than 85 ° C (185 ° F) (display group 004, display field 3)

Work step 4: Diagnostic of tank leak test

Test requirements
- Engine at idle
- Coolant temperature greater 85°C (Display group 004, display field 3)
- Intake air temperature less 95°C (Display group 004, display field 4)

Work step 7: Diagnostic of oxygen sensor before catalytic converter

Test requirements

- Increase RPM until exhaust temperature reached 200 ° C in display field 2

Work step 10: Diagnostic of oxygen sensor aging after catalytic converter

- Increase engine speed until exhaust temperature of 250 ° C is reached in display field 2.

Work step 11: Diagnosis catalytic converter

- Increase engine speed to approximately 1800 to 2400/RPM.
- Catalyst temperature greater than 540 ° C display field 2.
- Return engine to idle. Test starts when catalyst temperature falls below 540 ° C but remains above 400 ° C.

If the specified value "Cat B2 OK" is reached:
- Press -C- button

Work step 12: Diagnostic of Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system

- Increase engine speed to approximately: 1800 - 2400/RPM
