Code Control Module (Function 07)

A/C Control Head -E87-, Coding (Function 07)

NOTE:

- On this vehicle the "Basic-coding" of the A/C control head -E87- occurs through the Control module with indicator unit in instrument cluster -J285-. The data is transmitted to the A/C control head -E87- via the CAN-bus comfort system, the currently valid coding is displayed in the measuring value block (display group 019). Measuring Value Blocks (Function 08)
- The direct coding input into the A/C control head -E87- applies for certain equipment.
- For example, if the Control module with indicator unit in instrument cluster has been coded to country variant "Japan", then when the recirculated air mode is selected before the ignition is switched off, the climate control will remain in recirculated air mode after the ignition has been switched off and on again (display group 019). Measuring Value Blocks (Function 08)

Code control module

NOTE:
The coding of control modules is only possible with test units that have a dealership number entered.

- With ignition switched off connect VAS 5051 Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System with VAS 5051/1 diagnostic cable to 16-pin data link connector on vehicle and select address word "08 - A/C heater/electronics". Connecting VAS 5051 Tester

Requirements
- DTC memory checked, displayed malfunctions eliminated and DTC memory displayed. Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes Clearing Trouble Codes
- Air conditioning switched ON (operating mode "Auto").

Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

- Select "07 - Code control module" function.

Indicated on display of VAS 5051:

- In display field -1- is the request to input the coding.
- Display field -2- shows input keyboard.
- Display field -3- shows in the fourth row the actual current code and in brackets the previously valid coding.

- The fifth row of display field -3- shows the dealership number that was entered with the VAS 5051.

- Code A/C control head -E87- according to the available equipment and vehicle type.
Coding table
- Enter in keyboard field -2- the applicable coding according to the coding table.
- Press -Q-button in display field -2- to confirm input.

After short time the VAS 5051 displays

- Display field -1- shows "Coding in vehicle system carried out".
- Display field -2- indicates the control module identification with the new code and the old code in brackets.

NOTE:
- By clicking the <-button you will return to the selection menu.
- The malfunction message "Function unknown" or "Cannot be carried out at the moment" will be displayed if the coding was incorrect and the old coding remains.
- The A/C control head -E87- is coded with "00000" during manufacturing (delivered state as replacement part).
- The A/C control head -E87- is coded for different models via the vehicle variant coding:
- The "basic setting" comes in effect on Sedan, Avant and Coupe models.
- On convertible models the function of heated rear window is switched over, the control characteristics changed respectively, and with the top open the control occurs via the vent temperature sensors.
- On a Coupe model the control characteristics change respectively.
- The diagnostic and activation function of the windshield defroster is enabled, if the A/C control head -E87- is coded for a vehicle with Heated front window -Z2-.
- If the A/C control head -E87- is coded for a vehicle with sunroof with solar cells, the following adjustments are carried out on the climate control system after the ignition is switched off:
- The Actuator for temperature flap left -V158- and Actuator for temperature flap right -V159-are moved in the "cold" position.
- The Central Air Flap Motor -V70- is moved to position "air to dash panel vents" and the defrost flap is closed via the Defroster Flap Motor -V107-(air in footwell).
- The fresh air flap will be opened (Air Flow Flap Motor -V71-) and the recirculated air flap will be closed (Recirculation Flap Motor -V113-)
