Oxygen Sensor Signal Wire And Actuation, Checking
NOTE: The oxygen sensor signal is monitored by the self-diagnosis.
- Interrogate fault memory.
- If oxygen sensor fault is displayed and oxygen sensor heating is OK, disconnect connector for relevant oxygen sensor.
Component locations of 4-pin oxygen sensor connectors
- Measure voltage with portable multimeter V.A.G 1526 (measuring range 2 V) between sockets 3 and 4 of connector at wiring harness.
- Switch on ignition.
Specification: 450 ±50 mV
If reading does not match specification:
- Check oxygen sensor wiring.
Bank 1 sensor 1, Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39-
Bank 1 sensor 2, Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) -G130-
Bank 2 sensor 1, Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 -G108-
Bank 2 sensor 2, Oxygen Sensor (O2S) 2 Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) - G131-
If reading matches specification:
- Replace relevant oxygen sensor.
Checking oxygen sensor wiring, bank 1 sensor 1, Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) - G39-
- Disconnect black 4-pin connector to bank 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39-.
- Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 at wiring harness to engine control module. Actual engine control module is not to be connected. Wiring And Component Check Using Test Box V.A.G 1598/31
- Check for open circuit in the following wiring.

- Check for open circuit in the following wiring.
