Connect Test Box For Wiring Test

Recommended special tools and equipment e.g.:







- VAG1598/31 test box

Requirement
- Ignition switched off.

Procedure
- Pry off both caps at wiper arms using a screwdriver.







- Loosen hex nuts (arrows) by several turns.
- Loosen wiper arm -1- from wiper axle by lightly tilting.
- Remove hex nuts completely and remove wiper arms.
- Remove rubber seal -2- for plenum chamber cover.
- Remove plenum chamber cover -3- and place it facing the windshield.







- Disengage connector catches (arrow) and disconnect harness connectors from control module.
- Remove Engine Control Module (ECM).







- Connect VAG1598/31 test box to connectors of wiring harness. Connect Ground (GND) clip at test box (not visible in illustration) to Ground (GND). Relevant test procedures note whether Engine Control Module (ECM) should also be connected to the test box.

When harness connectors are disconnected from the Engine Control Module (ECM) or the battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in the control module are erased. DTC memory content will remain intact however. If the engine is started after this, a rough, uneven idle can result. In this case, the readiness code must be generated again.
