Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Function 03)



Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)

NOTE:
- Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) is only possible with the engine off and the ignition switched on.
- In output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), individual actuators (with the exception of the fuel injectors) are activated for approximately 1 minute unless the next actuator is selected earlier by pressing the -> button.
- Actuators are checked either acoustically or by touch.
- Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) is aborted if it is not switched further after about one minute of activation time, the engine is started or an RPM signal is recognized.
- Before re-initiating output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), the engine must be started and the ignition must be switched off and on again.

Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) activates the following components in the specified sequence:

1 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80-
2 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) solenoid valve -N112-
3 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Relay -J299-
4 Wastegate Bypass Regulator Valve -N75-
5 Camshaft adjustment
6 Leak Detection Pump (LDP) tank ventilation system
7 Recirculating valve for turbocharger -N249-
8 Activation of brake vacuum pump 1)
9 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N115-
10 Fuel injector cyl. 1 -N30-
11 Fuel injector cyl. 3 -N32-
12 Fuel injector cyl. 4 -N33-
13 Fuel injector cyl. 2 -N31-

1) Vehicles with automatic transmission

Requirement
- Fuses for engine electronics OK

Work sequence
- Connect VAS5051 tester and select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics". Ignition must be switched on for this.







On display of VAS 5051:
- In selection -1-, click on diagnostic function "03 - output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)".

Activating Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) canister solenoid valve







Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
1 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-
- Click on -> button

Display on VAS5051:

A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed
- This valve is activated for approx. 1 minute (clicks) in intervals, unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

NOTE: During the activation period the Fuel Pump (FP) must run and a flowing noise at the fuel pressure regulator must be clearly audible. If the Fuel Pump (FP) does not run, check activation. Fuel Pump (FP) Relay -J17- and Activation, Checking

If valve is not activated (does not click):
- Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve -N80-. Testing and Inspection

Activating Secondary Air Injection (AIR) valve
- Press -> button.







Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
2 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) solenoid valve -N112-
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed







- This valve (item -2- beneath intake manifold) is activated for approx. 1 minute (clicks) in intervals, unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If valve is not activated (does not click):
- Check Secondary Air Injection (AIR) solenoid valve -N112-.

Activating Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay

- Press -> button







Display on VAS 5051:

A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
3 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay -J299-
- Click on -> button again.

On display of VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed







- The Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay -J299- (in relay carrier in the E-box, in the plenum chamber, position 3) switches the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor-V101- on for approx. 1 minute in intervals unless the next actuator is selected first by pressing the -> button.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor does not start up in intervals:
- Check Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump relay -J299-.

Activating wastegate bypass regulator valve

- Click on -> button







Display on VAS5051:

A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
4 - Wastegate bypass regulator valve -N75-
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed
- This valve is activated for approx. 1 minute (clicks) in intervals, unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If valve is not activated (does not click).

Activating camshaft adjustment valve

- Press -> button.







Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
5 - Camshaft adjustment
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching permitted
- This valve is activated for approx. 1 minute (clicks) in intervals, unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If valve is not activated (does not click).
- Check camshaft adjustment valve:

Activating Leak Detection Pump (LDP) for tank ventilation system
- Click on -> button.







Display on VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
6 - Leak Detection Pump (LDP) for tank ventilation system
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching permitted
- The Leak detection pump (LDP) -V144- is activated in intervals for approx. 1 minute (clicks), unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

NOTE: Operating noise of Leak Detection Pump (LDP) is softly audible at left rear wheelhouse.

If Leak Detection Pump (LDP) is not activated (no operating noise audible):
- Check Leak Detection Pump (LDP) -V144- for tank ventilation system:

Activating recirculating valve for turbocharger
- Click on button ->.







On display of VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
7 - Recirculating valve for turbocharger -N249-
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching permitted







- This valve (-item 1- beneath intake manifold) is activated for approx. 1 minute (clicks) in intervals, unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If valve is not activated (does not click).

Activating brake system vacuum pump 1)
1) Vehicles with automatic transmission

- Click on -> button again.







Display on VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
8 - Activation of brake system vacuum pump
- Press the -> button.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed
- Brake system vacuum pump in engine compartment at front, left, must start up for a short time, unless -> button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.

If brake system vacuum pump does not start up:
- Check vacuum pump for brake booster.

Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve -N115-
- Click on -> button






Display on VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
9 - Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve -N115-
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed







- This valve is activated for approx. 1 minute (clicks) in intervals, unless -> - button is pressed first to switch to the next actuator.
- Component location: Bottom of spare tire well

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If valve is not activated (does not click).

Activating fuel injectors

NOTE: Fuel injectors are activated according to ignition sequence: Cyl. 1, Cyl. 3, Cyl. 4, Cyl. 2

- Press -> button.







Display on VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
10 - Cylinder 1 Fuel Injector -N30-
- Click on-> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching permitted
- Fuel injector must click 5 times after -> button is pressed.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time

- Click on -> button.







Display on VAS5051:

A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
11 - Cylinder 3 Fuel Injector -N32-

- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:

A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching permitted
- Fuel injector must click 5 times after -> button is pressed.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time

- Click on -> button.







On display of VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
12 - Cylinder 4 Fuel Injector-N33-
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching allowed
- Fuel injector must click 5 times after -> button is pressed.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

- Click on -> button.







Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is waiting Advancing by switching required
13 - Cylinder 2 Fuel Injector -N31-
- Click on -> button again.

Display on VAS5051:
A - Actuator test is running Advancing by switching permitted
- Fuel injector must click 5 times after -> button is pressed.

NOTE: Fuel pump must run during activation time.

If one of the fuel injectors is not activated (does not click).
- Check fuel injectors. Fuel Injectors, Testing
- Click on -> button.







On display of VAS 5051:
A - Actuator test has ended
- End function "03 - output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)" by pressing <- button.


NOTE: Before re-initiating output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM), engine must be started and the ignition must be switched off and on again.
