Right Flange Shaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Extractor Lever (VW 681)
• Assembly Drift (3382)
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782 )
• Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1)
Procedure
• General repair notes. Refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.
• Observe cleanliness rules when working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Cleanliness Working Conditions ] Cleanliness Working Conditions.
- Loosen the right drive axle bolt - arrow - on the wheel hub with the vehicle still standing on its wheels.
- Remove the right front wheel.
- Remove right drive axle heat shield - arrows -.
• The third bolt is not visible in the illustration.
- Remove the right drive axle - 1 - from the transmission flange shaft.
- Remove flange shaft bolt - arrow - while securing flange shaft against turning with drift.
- Place Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device ( V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
- Pull out right drive flange.
- Remove flange shaft seal.
- Coat outer edge of shaft seal with axle oil.
- Drive in new shaft seal as far as stop without tilting it.
• Installation position: The open side of the shaft seal faces the transmission.
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Install right flange shaft.
- Tighten flange shaft bolt - arrow - while securing flange shaft against turning with drift.
- Connect the right drive axle to the flange shaft.
- Mount the right front wheel.
- Oil level in front final drive, checking. Refer to => [ ATF Level In Planetary Gearing, Checking and Correcting ] ATF Level In Planetary Gearing, Checking and Correcting.
