Front Engine Plate: Service and Repair

Front Sealing Flange

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Fitting sleeve (3202/1)

• Seal Installer (3265)

Removing

- Bring the lock carrier into service position. Refer to => [ Lock Carrier, Moving into Service Position ] Lock Carrier, Moving Into Service Position.

- Remove toothed belt. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] Service and Repair.

- Remove camshaft gears from right cylinder head.

- Remove screws - 1 - and remove bracket with idler roller.





- Remove screws - 2 - and remove right rear toothed belt guard.

- Remove upper part of oil pan. Refer to => [ Upper Oil Pan ] Upper Oil Pan.

- Remove central screw - 1 - for crankshaft toothed belt gear - 2 -.





- Remove toothed belt gear and diamond disc - 3 -.

- Remove eccentric roller - 3 -, tensioning lever - 2 - with tensioning roller and tensioner - 1 -.





- Remove locking screw from alignment hole - 3 -.





- To protect against cuts, wrap point and cutting edges of 3 mm dia. drill bit with insulating tape.

- Press chain tensioner - 1 - in direction of - arrow - until dia. 3 mm drill bit - 2 - can be slid into alignment holes on sealing flange and chain tensioner.

- Remove screws - 1 - and - 2 - and remove front sealing flange.





- Drive out sealing ring with the sealing flange removed.

• Oil pump chain tensioner must be removed to replace the sealing flange. Refer to => [ Oil Pump Drive Chain or Chain Tensioner ] Oil Pump Drive Chain or Chain Tensioner.

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

• Replace gaskets, seals and self-locking bolts.

• Do not oil the sealing lip and outer edge of seal before pressing in.

- Clean sealing surfaces on sealing flange.

- Install front sealing flange with secured chain tensioner.

- Replace bolt - 2 -.





- Tighten bolts - 1 - to 10 Nm and bolts - 2 - to 30 Nm.

- Push seal on using fitting sleeve (3202/1).

- Press seal in using Seal Installer (3265) and center bolt to limit stop.





- Next loosely install eccentric roller - 3 -.





• Note washer below tensioning lever - 2 -.

- Install tensioning lever - 2 - with tensioning roller and tensioner - 1 -.

- Install crankshaft toothed belt gear - 2 - with new diamond disc - 3 - and new central bolt - 1 -.





• There must be no oil on the contact surfaces between toothed belt gear, diamond disc and crankshaft.

• Do not oil crankshaft toothed belt sprocket screw additionally.

- Install upper section of oil pan. Refer to => [ Upper Oil Pan ] Upper Oil Pan.

- After installing oil pump, remove drill bit from alignment hole and install locking screw with new sealing ring.

- Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) => [ Installing (Adjusting valve timing) ] Service and Repair.

- Install the lock carrier with attachments. Refer to =>

- Install the front bumper cover.
