Camshaft Adjuster

Removing

Camshafts and crankshaft must not be rotated when timing drive is disassembled.

The camshaft bar (T10068) serves exclusively to lock the camshaft at TDC. To counter-hold, a 32 mm open-end wrench must be set on the hex of the camshaft.

Engine removed.

Engine separated from transmission.

- Remove timing chains for camshafts => [ Timing Chains for Camshaft Drive ] Timing Chains For Camshaft Drive.

- To loosen the bolt for camshaft adjuster counter-hold at hex - arrow - of camshaft with a 32 mm open-end wrench.





- Remove camshaft adjuster.

Installing

There must be no oil on the contact surfaces between camshaft adjuster and camshaft as well as between bolt head and camshaft adjusters.

Observe alignment pin in camshaft adjuster.

Use new bolts when securing the camshaft adjuster.

- When installing, observe the identification of the camshaft adjuster - arrows -





Intake camshaft timing adjuster for cylinder bank 1 (right): B1 / A2

Exhaust camshaft timing adjuster for cylinder bank 1 (right): B1 / Front side made of plastic

Intake camshaft timing adjuster for cylinder bank 2 (left): B2 / A2

Exhaust camshaft timing adjuster for cylinder bank 2 (left): B2 / Front side made of plastic

- To tighten the bolt for camshaft adjuster counter-hold at hex - arrow - of camshaft with an open-end wrench.





- Install timing chains for camshafts => [ Timing Chains for Camshaft Drive ] Timing Chains For Camshaft Drive.

Tightening Specifications





* 90° corresponds to one quarter rotation.

* Replace bolts.
