Main Catalytic Converters

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Gearbox support (T10337)

Removing

- On a vehicle with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode.

- Remove bolt and remove rear noise insulation - 2 -.





- Remove bolts - 1, 2, 3 - on main catalytic converter brackets.





Risk of accident.

Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) may only be used during assembly and not stand unsupervised under vehicle.

- Support transmission with Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) and connected gearbox support (T10337) as shown in illustration.





Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove transmission carrier bolts - 1 and 2 -.





- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove transmission carrier.





Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Loosen clamping sleeves - 1 and 2 -.





Risk of damaging decoupling elements.

Do not bend decoupling element in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.

- Remove bolts - arrows - and main catalytic converters from clamping sleeves.





Installing

Tightening specifications => [ Catalytic Converters and Mufflers, Assembly Overview ] Catalytic Converters and Mufflers, Assembly Overview, => [ Mufflers ] Catalytic Converters and Mufflers, Assembly Overview.

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Replace the seals

- Align transmission carrier and tighten.

- Install exhaust system free of stress => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Service and Repair.

- On a vehicle with air suspension, deactivate vehicle lift mode.
