Locking Cable Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Adjustment pin for shift lock (3352 A)
• Angle grinder
• Protective glasses
Work preparations
• The procedure described below will save you the effort of removing the center console.
- Cut through adjustment pin for shift lock 3 ( 3352 A) at rear end of flat area - arrow - using a cutting grinder.
CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.
- Order a new Adjustment Pin for Shift Lock (3352 A) as a replacement for other applications.
Adjustment requirements
• Locking cable in the installation position
• Selector lever in position "P".
• Ignition key in removal position.
Procedure
• Tightening specifications. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable and Locking Cable Assembly Overview ] Selector Lever Cable and Locking Cable Assembly Overview
- Remove shift mechanism cover. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Cover ] Selector Mechanism Cover.
• The selector lever handle and covers can remain installed.
- Remove ashtray in center console.
- Loosen bolt - 1 -.
• Support bracket - 2 - of locking cable must be movable by hand
- Insert the reworked adjustment pin for shift lock 3 (3352 A) between pin on locking cable lever and locking cable eye.
- Pull locking cable all the way in direction of - arrow - then tighten screw.
• It must be possible to easily remove and insert adjusting gauge for locking cable (3352 A) in this position.
- Remove adjustment pin.
- Install ashtray into the center console.
- Check ignition key removal lock after every adjustment of the locking cable. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] 09LA Transmission.
- Install selector mechanism cover. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Cover ] Selector Mechanism Cover.
