Ignition Coil: Service and Repair
Ignition Coils
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)
Cylinder bank 1 (right)
- Separate the electrical connector - 1 - from Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor (G70).
- Open both clips - arrows -.
- Open the hose clamp and carefully pull the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor (G70) out of the guide from air filter housing.
- Remove screws - 3 and 6 -.
- Then disconnect connectors - 1 and 8 -.
- Disconnect connectors - 9, 4, 5 and 7 - from the ignition coils and move the wiring harness to the side.
- Push the Ignition Coil Puller (T40039) onto the ignition coil with power output stage, and pull it off in direction of - arrow -.
- To install, correctly position the Ignition Coils With Power Output Stage in the spark plug shaft and press the Ignition Coil With Power Output Stage onto the spark plug until the stop.
Cylinder bank 2 (left)
- Remove the coolant expansion tank - arrow - and disconnect the connector on the Engine Coolant Level Warning Switch (F66) on the bottom of the expansion tank.
- Move the coolant reservoir to the side with hoses - 1 through 3 - connected.
- Remove the bolts - 2 - and - 5 -.
- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 - and free up wiring harness.
- Remove crankcase ventilation hose - 7 - by pressing release buttons.
- Remove the ignition coils using the Ignition Coil Puller (T40039).
Installing
- Insert all ignition coils loosely into spark plug shaft.
- Align the ignition coils to the connectors and then connect all of the connectors simultaneously onto the ignition coils.
- Press the ignition coils uniformly onto the spark plugs by hand (do not use an impact tool under any circumstances).
Further installation is in reverse order of removal.
