Control Housing for Camshaft Adjustment
Removing
• Camshafts and crankshaft must not be rotated when timing drive is disassembled.
• The camshaft bar (T10068) serves exclusively to lock the camshaft at TDC. To counter-hold, an open-end wrench 32 mm must be set on the hex of the camshaft.
• Engine removed.
• Engine separated from transmission.
- Remove timing chains for camshafts => [ Timing Chains for Camshaft Drive ] Timing Chains For Camshaft Drive.
- To loosen the bolt for camshaft adjuster counter-hold at hex - arrow - of camshaft with a 32 mm open-end wrench.
- Remove camshaft adjuster.
- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove control housing for camshaft adjustment.
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following.
- Clean strainer - arrows - on the backside of the control housing for camshaft adjustment.
- Lightly oil the contact surface for piston rings in control housing for camshaft adjustment.
• When installing control housing for camshaft adjustment, make sure that the piston rings are not damaged on the camshafts.
• The piston ring gaps must be offset by 120°.
- Place control housing for camshaft adjustment onto the camshaft.
- Fasten bolts - arrows - in a diagonal sequence.
- Install camshaft adjusters => [ Installing ] Service and Repair.
- Install timing chains for camshafts => [ Timing Chains for Camshaft Drive ] Timing Chains For Camshaft Drive.
Tightening Specifications
* Insert using locking compound; locking compound.
