Electrical Accessory Panel: Service and Repair
Plenum Chamber E-Box
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Protective Cap For Cable Connector (VAS 6223/9) from Fiber Optic Plier Repair Set (VAS 6223)
Removing
• All cable ties opened or cut during engine removal must be reinstalled at the same locations during installation.
- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove glove compartment.
- Fold back floor carpet.
- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove front information display control head control module (J523).
- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - and - 3 -.
- Disconnect harness connector - 2 - for fiber-optic cable.
- Seal open wiring harness fiber optic connector - 2 - with (VAS 6223/9) - item 1 -.
• Protective cap prevents contamination of or mechanical damage to end face of fiber optic cable which would impair signal transmission.
- Unclip retainers - arrows - and detach level control system control module (J197).
- Unplug connectors.
- Detach insulating mat behind level control system control module.
- Remove nuts - arrows - and detach cover.
- Remove nuts - arrows -.
- Remove rubber seal - 1 - on plenum chamber covers.
- Remove plenum chamber covers - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Remove dust and pollen filter.
• Cover air duct at air conditioner housing with clean cloth to stop anything falling in.
- Remove wiper arms. Refer to => [ Windshield Wiper Arms ] Removal and Replacement.
- Remove the bolts at the left and right - arrows - for the cowl panel grille - 1 -.
The cowl panel trim could be damaged.
• Coat the transition between the windshield and cowl panel trim with some soapy water and carefully pull the cowl panel trim - 1 - vertically out of the retainer on the windshield beginning at the edge of the window.
- Carefully remove the cowl grille from the locking mechanism on the windshield.
- Remove screws - arrows -.
- Detach both retainers and engine control module from plenum chamber electronics box.
- Move the engine control module to the side with the connectors still connected.
- Turn air quality sensor (G238) - item 1 - counter-clockwise 90° and remove sensor from mount.
- Release the retaining clips - arrows -.
- Open plenum chamber electronics box cover slightly and pull off to front.
- Unplug multi-connectors - 1 -.
- Release fasteners - arrows - and lift off auxiliary relay carrier in electronics box.
- Disengage the engine wiring harness on the E-box and free it up.
- Remove and lift off electronics box.
- Unclip plug-in sockets for multi-pin connectors.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
• Attach all cable ties at the same locations when installing.
- Install glove compartment.
- Connect battery. Required actions, refer to => [ To connect, connect terminal clamp of ground (GND) wire by hand to battery negative terminal and tighten nut. ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Adjust wiper arms. Refer to => [ Windshield Wiper Arms, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
