Muffler Assembly Overview
• Heat shield lock washers can be loosened and tightened with a screwdriver. Tightening Specification: 2 Nm
1 Bolt
• 23 Nm
2 Bracket for Exhaust System
3 Center Muffler
• Unit with rear muffler
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Removal and Replacement
4 Retaining Loop
• Replace if damaged
5 Nut
• 23 Nm
6 Bracket for Exhaust System
7 Bolt
• 23 Nm
8 Suspended Mount
• Replace if damaged
9 Bolt
• 23 Nm
10 Tunnel Brace
11 Nut
• Replace
• 40 Nm
12 Seals
• Replace
13 Oxygen Sensors Before Catalytic Converter
• Threads on new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste
• When re-installing a used oxygen sensor, coat threads with hot bolt paste; hot bolt paste
• Assembly paste or hot bolt paste must not get onto slots of sensor body.
14 Oxygen Sensors Behind Catalytic Converter
• Threads on new oxygen sensors are coated with assembly paste
• When re-installing a used oxygen sensor, coat threads with hot bolt paste; hot bolt paste
• Assembly paste or hot bolt paste must not get onto slots of sensor body.
15 Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters and Front Muffler
Risk of damaging decoupling elements.
• Do not bend decoupling element in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.
• Do not load decoupling element on cable
• Do not damage wire mesh at decoupling element
• Protect catalytic converter from shocks and impact stress
• Removal and installation, refer to => [ Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters and Front Muffler ] Service and Repair
• Remove decoupling element guard on replacement part as late as possible
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Removal and Replacement
16 Nut
• 23 Nm
17 Clamping Sleeve
• Before tightening, ensure exhaust system is tension-free => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Removal and Replacement
• Installed location, refer to => [ Clamping Sleeve Location ]
• Tighten threaded connections evenly.
18 Rear Muffler
• Unit with center muffler
• Install exhaust system free of stress, refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Removal and Replacement
19 Retaining Loop
• Replace if damaged
20 Nut
• 23 Nm
Clamping Sleeve Location
- Install clamping sleeve in angle position shown.
• Threaded connections point toward the right.
• Nuts face up.
• alpha = approximately 20°
