Compressor with Pulley, Removing and Installing at Bracket
Compressor with Pulley, Removing and Installing at Bracket
• The compressor can be removed and installed at the bracket without opening the refrigerant lines.
• Do not discharge the refrigerant circuit, do not remove refrigerant hoses and lines from the compressor.
• Do not unfasten refrigerant pipes and corresponding clamps.
• After detaching, use wire for example to attach compressor to longitudinal member. Never leave hanging from refrigerant pipes.
• Before removing, mark direction of operation of ribbed belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. Running a used belt in the opposite direction could destroy it.
• Different compressors may be installed depending on engine and country variant.
• In vehicles with an electric engine mount, ensure the proper allocation of connectors at the engine mount and at the A/C compressor regulator valve (N280), these components have the same connections. If the connectors are transposed, an error will not be stored (the components have approximately the same electric values), the engine mount will be actuated by the Climatronic Control Module (J255), and the A/C compressor regulator valve (N280) by the Engine Control Module.
• The following figure shows the compressor for a vehicle with a 6 cylinder gasoline direct fuel injection engine (FSI); for other engines, the position of the compressor differs slightly from this figure. The torques and additional work steps for removing and installing are essentially the same.
Compressor with Pulley, Removing from Bracket
- Remove top engine cover.
- Remove center noise insulation.
- Mark the direction of operation of the ribbed belt.
- Release tension on ribbed belt and remove it.
- Regardless of the engine design, remove the oil filter and oil cooler if necessary, and protect the sealing surfaces from damage (when removing the compressor).
- Mark connector - A -.
- Disconnect connector - A - from socket - E - for the A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (N280).
- Remove the three screws - B -.
- Remove compressor and secure it to vehicle e.g. using a wire
Compressor with Pulley, Installing on Bracket
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
- Before securing the compressor, check that both bushings - D - in the bracket or compressor are seated correctly.
- Install one washer each - C - at the screws - B - (tightening torque 25 Nm).
- Prior to positioning the ribbed belt, after installation manually turn the compressor 10 rotations.
• Rotating forces refrigerant oil out of the compression chamber if it has accumulated in the removed compressor.
- After fastening the compressor, check installation position of refrigerant lines, lines must be engaged in bracket (if installed, depending on engine).
- After attaching compressor, also check refrigerant pipes and corresponding holders for adequate clearance with respect to other components, ensuring sufficient distance between belt, holder and pulley.
