Voice Activation Module: Service and Repair






Speech Input Control Module from September 2008

The voice control system is part of the information electronics control module 1 (J794) inside the glove compartment. It cannot be replaced alone.

If it is faulty, then the information electronics control module 1 must be replaced.

- Switch off all electrical consumers.

- Remove the key.

- If control module is replaced, select replacement function for appropriate control module in guided fault finding routine.

Use the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051) to do so.

Removing

- Remove the information electronics control module 1. Refer to => [ Information Electronics Control Module 1, MMI, from September 2008 ] Information Electronics Control Module 1, MMI, from September 2008.

Installing

- Install the information electronics control module 1. Refer to => [ Information Electronics Control Module 1, MMI, from September 2008 ] Information Electronics Control Module 1, MMI, from September 2008.

Perform the following function test:

- Switch on the radio (R).

- Briefly depress PTT button on multifunction steering wheel.

A "Ping" tone sounds, the speech input system is active.

- Say the command "Help"

Since the radio is active, the speech dialog system responds with "Commands for the radio are..".

Depending on the equipment, other functions can be selected:

- If a telephone is installed, say "telephone".

The speech dialog system switches to the telephone mode.

- Press and hold the PPT button for approximately 1 second.

The speech dialog system responds with "Cancel" and is deactivated.
