Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair






Airbag Control Module

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag System General Safety Precautions ] Airbag System General Safety Precautions.

- Switch on ignition.

To remove the airbag, battery must be disconnected with the ignition switched on, this deviates from the description "disconnecting and connecting battery".

- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.

- Remove center console. Refer to => [ Center Console Frame ] Center Console Frame.

- Remove center console frame. Refer to => [ Center Console Frame ] Center Console Frame.

- Remove air duct from center console. Refer to => [ Air Duct ] Air Duct.

- Pull insulation - 4 - back.





- Open securing clip - 5 - on connector - 1 -.

- Remove connector - 1 -.

- Remove nuts - 2 - (quantity: 3).

- Remove control module - 3 -.

Installation





- Install control module - 3 - in reverse order of removal.

CAUTION!
No one should be in the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect battery ground strap.

- Follow measures after connecting battery.

If the airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) indicates a malfunction after assembly, check the DTC memory with the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B), clear it, and check it again.

After replacing control module, it must be coded.

Airbag Control Module (J234) ground connection takes place with chassis over housing.
