Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
Airbag Control Module
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)
Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag System General Safety Precautions ] Airbag System General Safety Precautions.
- Switch on ignition.
• To remove the airbag, battery must be disconnected with the ignition switched on, this deviates from the description "disconnecting and connecting battery".
- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.
- Remove center console. Refer to => [ Center Console Frame ] Center Console Frame.
- Remove center console frame. Refer to => [ Center Console Frame ] Center Console Frame.
- Remove air duct from center console. Refer to => [ Air Duct ] Air Duct.
- Pull insulation - 4 - back.
- Open securing clip - 5 - on connector - 1 -.
- Remove connector - 1 -.
- Remove nuts - 2 - (quantity: 3).
- Remove control module - 3 -.
Installation
- Install control module - 3 - in reverse order of removal.
CAUTION!
No one should be in the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery ground strap.
- Follow measures after connecting battery.
• If the airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) indicates a malfunction after assembly, check the DTC memory with the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B), clear it, and check it again.
• After replacing control module, it must be coded.
• Airbag Control Module (J234) ground connection takes place with chassis over housing.
Tightening Specifications
