Rear Suspension






Outer CV Joint, 88 mm or 100 mm

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

CV joint boot clamp tool (3340)

Hose clamp pliers (V.A.G 1275)

Removing

- Secure the drive axle with protective covers in a vise clamp.

- Open the clamp and remove the protective boot from the outer joint.

- Strike a copper or brass drift - A - on CV joint inner race with a hammer.






- Remove joint and protective joint boot.

Installing

- Slide joint protective boot onto drive shaft.

- Position protective joint boot between - arrows -.






- Before installing joint piece, splines - A - must be lightly coated with grease used in joint.






- Insert sealing ring in groove on shaft.

- Slide on CV joint up to sealing ring.






- Align sealing ring at center with opening upward - see arrows -.

- Screw old drive axle bolt into joint as shown in the illustration.






- Drive joint onto drive axle with plastic hammer until circlip engages.

- Add the specified quantity of grease to the inner joint. Table, refer to => [ Grease Quantity and Type ] Rear Suspension.

- Add the specified quantity of grease to the inner joint. Table, refer to => [ Grease Quantity and Type ] Rear Suspension.

- Install the protective boot on the outer joint.

Installing the Tensioning the Clamp on the Outer Joint

Tightening the Clamp on the 88 mm Outer Joint

- Tension the clamp using (V.A.G 1275).






Tightening the Clamp on the 100 mm Outer Joint

- Engage the clamp at the first catch by hand.






- Close the clamp using (3340).

(3340) must be inserted at front of clamp, as depicted in illustration.
