Drive Chain
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Counter-holder tool (T10069)
Removing
• Engine removed.
• Engine separated from transmission.
- Remove camshaft timing chains => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
- Remove bolt - arrow -.
CAUTION!
Bolt has left-hand thread!
- Push chain tensioner for drive chain downward and lock in position with drill bit 3.5 mm dia. - 6 -.
- Remove bolts - 4 - and chain tensioner - 5 - as well as the gasket located behind.
- Pull guide rail - 1 - from mounting pins.
- Remove mounting pins - 2 - and camshaft drive chain sprocket - 3 -.
Installing
• Replace gaskets.
• Engine locked at TDC position.
• Crankshaft locked in TDC position using Crankshaft Holder (3242).
- Set drive chain onto the crankshaft chain sprocket and onto the camshaft drive chain sprocket.
• The copper-colored chain links - 1 - and - 5 - must face toward the transmission side.
• The lower copper-colored chain link - 1 - must be centrally located to the housing separation point - 2 -.
• The copper-colored chain link - 5 - must be positioned so that its left chain pin is aligned with the threaded hole - 4 - lying directly across from it.
- When installing the camshaft drive chain sprocket, insert the mounting pins - 3 - into the chain sprocket and intermediate shaft.
- To verify the installed position of the chain, press on the right side of the chain by hand - arrow -.
- Place guide rail - 1 - onto the mounting pins.
- Replace gasket below chain tensioner - 5 -.
- Fasten chain tensioner with bolts - 4 -.
- Pull drill bit 3.5 mm dia.- 6 - out of alignment hole, thereby releasing the chain tensioner.
- Tighten camshaft drive chain sprocket with bolt - arrow -.
CAUTION!
Bolt has left-hand thread!
- Install camshaft timing chains => [ Installing ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
Tightening Specifications
* Replace screw.
* 90° corresponds to one quarter rotation.
