Front Transmission Support and Transmission Mount
Front Transmission Support and Transmission Mount
- Drive the vehicle onto a service pit so that all 4 tires remain on the ground.
- Remove the air duct - 1 - from the transmission.
- Remove the noise insulation - 2 - from underneath the engine/transmission.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - at rear of subframe on both sides of vehicle.
- Take out the supports for the subframe.- A -.
- Remove both bolts on the left and right - B - for fastening the transmission mount on the subframe.
• Both front transmission mounts must always be detached from the subframe.
Remove the right transmission support with the transmission mount.
Remove the left transmission support with transmission mount.
Install right and left front transmission support with transmission mount
Right Transmission Support
- Fasten the right transmission support - H - to the transmission, following the bolt tightening sequence of - 1 through 3 -.
• if present, attach the bracket for oxygen sensor cable - G - between the transmission and the transmission support.
- Place the transmission mount - D - together with the heat shield - E - and washer - F - in the transmission support.
- Hand-tighten the nut and washer - I -.
Left Transmission Support
- Attached the left transmission support - G - to the transmission.
- Place the transmission mount - D - together with the heat shield - E - and washer - F - in the transmission support.
- Hand-tighten the nut and washer - I -.
- Install bolts - 1 - and - 2 - in the rear on the subframe with supports.- A -.
Left and right transmission support
- Tighten the right and left bolts - B - each 3 to 5 turns.
- Tighten the nut and washer - I - for now with only 5 Nm.
- To avoid stress, align the transmission mount once more with the transmission support, if necessary.
Installation of the transmission mount
• For installation of the transmission mount the thickness of the spacer plate - C - on the right and left sides must be determined.
• There are space plates in thicknesses of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 mm.
Determine the gap between the transmission mount and the subframe.
- Insert as many spacer plates between the transmission mount - D - and the subframe - A - until they can barely be inserted without great effort.
- Remove the spacer plates.
- Count the thickness of the individual plates to calculate the measurement of the gap.
Determination of the final spacer plate:
• For the thickness of the final spacer plate(s) add 2.5 mm to the calculated gap measurement.
- Lift the transmission using the (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Insert left and right accordingly so few spacer plates as possible for the determined thickness, with a maximum of 3 pieces per side.
- Lower the transmission again.
- Tighten the bolts with torque.
Right transmission support
Left transmission support
- Install the sound insulation - 2 - underneath the transmission.
- Remove the air duct - 1 -.
