Power Take-Off Drive Chain






Power Take-Off Drive Chain

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Crankshaft Holder (3242)

Socket (T40058)

Locking Pin (T40071)

Adjustment Tool (T40128)

Removing

Engine and transmission separated, refer to => [ Engine and Transmission, Separating ] Engine and Transmission, Separating, engine on the scissor lift platform (VAS 6131 A) or secured by the engine/transmission holder, refer to => [ Engine, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder ] Engine, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder.

Engine oil drained.

- Insert the (T40058) guide pins as follows:





Small diameter - arrow 1 - points to engine.

Large diameter - arrow 2 - points to socket.

- Using (T40058), rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation - arrow - to TDC.





- Remove locking bolt - arrow - from upper section of the oil pan.





- Install the (3242) in the hole and tighten to 20 Nm. If necessary, rotate the crankshaft back and forth slightly to completely center the holder.





- Remove vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the drive plate. Refer to => [ Drive Plate ] Drive Plate.

- Remove left and right timing chain covers. Refer to => [ Left and Right Timing Chain Covers ] Left and Right Timing Chain Covers.

- Remove the intake manifold.

- Remove the oil filter housing. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Housing ] Oil Filter Housing.

- Remove lower timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.

CAUTION!
Risk of destroying due to reversed running direction on a used drive chain.

Mark the drive chain running direction with arrows using paint for installation later. Do not mark the drive chain with a punch, notch or something similar.

- Press tensioning rail in direction of - arrow - and secure chain tensioner with (T40071).





- Remove bolt - 1 - and remove balance shaft chain sprocket.

- Remove the bolts - 2, 3 and 4 - and then remove chain tensioner.

- Remove the power take-off drive chain.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Always replace bolts that are tightened to torque as well as sealing rings, gasket and O-rings.

Secure crankshaft - 1 - in TDC position using (3242).





- Remove the bolts - 2 - and - 4 -.





- Remove balance shaft cover.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 3 -.

Balance shaft front bearing cap remains installed.

- Position (T40128) on balance shaft front bearing cap.





Rib on (T40128) must engage in groove on balance shaft.

- Fasten (T40128) to cylinder block with 2 M6x30 bolts - arrows -.

- Install the power take-off drive chain matching the markings made when it was being removed.





- Install chain tensioner and tighten bolts - 2, 3, 4 -.

- Place drive chain on balance shaft chain sprocket and tighten bolt - 1 -.

- Remove (T40128).

- Tighten the bolts - 1 - and - 3 -.





- Replace balance shaft cover O-ring.

- Tighten the bolts - 2 - and - 4 - on the balance shaft cover.

The rest of the installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Install lower timing chain cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.

- Install the transmission-side crankshaft shaft seal. Refer to => [ Crankshaft Seal, Transmission Side ] Service and Repair.

- Install the oil filter housing. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Housing ] Oil Filter Housing.

- Install the intake manifold.

- Install left and right timing chain covers => [ Installing ] Left and Right Timing Chain Covers.

- Install drive plate. Refer to => [ Drive Plate ] Drive Plate.

- Install vibration damper. Refer to => [ Vibration Damper ] Service and Repair.

- After installing the engine, fill with oil and then check the level.
