Rear Side Curtain Airbag Crash Sensors

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag System General Safety Precautions ] Airbag System General Safety Precautions.

- Switch on ignition.

To remove the airbag, battery must be disconnected with the ignition switched on, this deviates from the description "disconnecting and connecting battery".

- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) strap.

Vehicles with fixed backrests:

- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

- Remove rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Fixed Rear Seat Backrest ] Fixed Rear Seat Backrest.

Vehicles with divided backrests:

- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

- Remove rear side airbag. Refer to => [ Rear Side Airbag Igniters, Folding Backrest ] Rear Side Airbag Igniters, Folding Backrest.

Continuation for all - version I:





- Press part - 3 - (green) of connector - 4 - towards crash sensor and release connector.

- Remove connector - 4 - (yellow) from crash sensor - 1 -.

- Remove cap nuts - 2 - (quantity: 2).

- Remove rear side airbag crash sensor (side curtain airbag) - 1 - from cap nuts.

Continuation for all - version II:





- Pull the retainer - 4 - downward and out - arrow A -, press it down - arrow B - and disconnect the electrical connector - 3 - on the crash sensor.

- Remove the nut - 1 - and remove the rear side airbag crash sensor - 2 - from the threaded pins.

Installation

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.

Ensure wires are not pinched.

CAUTION!
No one should be in the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect battery ground strap.

- Follow measures after connecting battery.

If the airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) indicates a malfunction after assembly, check the DTC memory with the (VAS 5051B), clear it, and check it again.
